<<Experimental forum>>

I want to try clearing out at least half the backlog for A/Is, given how many lack any thoughts and many hands make lighter work, having a way for people to bring them up in batches for voting would help smooth things. A single forum sure beats waiting until something old is given a "bump" to get some thoughts on it.

So, yeah, post some forums you think could use some voting on here. Topic # or whole links are fine.
Current implication backlog 17 pages
Current alias backlog 28 pages

I'd do BURs too but most already have votes on them since they don't predate the voting system.
Eh feel free to do BURs here too.

Which then brings up the point I've made before about how we still don't have a formal category change request system

That's what BURs are.

It's officially AIBUR hunting season at e621! We're reviving this topic.

Please try to prioritize simple and uncontroversial requests that can be approved or rejected without too much consideration. Provide your opinion and start a discussion where necessary.

Example:

https://e621.net/forum_topics/19001 Approval, hair bows are bow ribbons
https://e621.net/forum_topics/18619 Approval, tail bows are bow ribbons
https://e621.net/forum_topics/19149 Approval, the character does belong to the series
https://e621.net/forum_topics/19079 Rejection, a horse can be ponified and still be the same species
https://e621.net/forum_topics/18196 Rejection, Puss in Boots is a public domain character and the Dreamworks interpretation has its own suffixed tag
https://e621.net/forum_topics/27460?page=1#forum_post_296943 Approval, all of the characters belong to the game
https://e621.net/forum_topics/27460?page=1#forum_post_299514 Rejection, the names are ambiguous without a suffix

Remember to leave votes, it helps.

I skimmed my last year or so of forum posts to bring you these:

topic #33836: uncontroversial alias of slang term
topic #33543: dictionary definition of a redundant tag
topic #33446: yet another overloaded character name
topic #33444: force-fixes a common newbie mistake
topic #33498: two-parter, correcting some Pokémon species implications/aliases
topic #33355: the case for this one has already been successfully argued elsewhere
topic #32687: trivial invalidation
topic #32240: I don't actually like this one, but the better alternative was already rejected
topic #32057: uncontroversial disambiguation, I already wrote the wiki page for it
topic #30445: mirrors tag structure elsewhere, part 2 of a recently approved BUR

Updated by bitWolfy

i got a couple

topic #32121 reject, i want to make a disambig request like i should've from the start
topic #32383 approve, vader-san's synth species is commonly mistagged with just synth instead of synth_(vader_san)
topic #33528 reject, i should really start from scratch since i don't know how transitive relationships work
topic #33585 approve, art depicting gacha_life should be tagged as such
topic #33682 approve, simple streamlining
topic #33686 approve, same artist
topic #34124 approve, superiorfox_(superiorfoxdafox) used to have around 20-ish posts to it's name before i switched them to soups_(superiorfox)

Updated by bitWolfy

topic #22568 approve - long overdue, might need some more discussion on which tag to use for the injury
topic #29844 approve - uncontroversial, has wiki page ready
topic #33471 approve - uncontroversial
topic #34041 reject implication, approve bur - suffix is unnecessary

You shouldn't be listing "approve" on questionable or controversal things. No matter how obvious and strong you think it is, you have a bias and cannot speak for everyone. That others have spoken against, especially to such a large majority, means you can't claim to be right.

I see that as the link poster's own opinion rather than a demand that it be approved. The admin need not follow the link poster's opinion, of course.

You love to see it! :D

Here's my big list, vote counts included, though almost all of these are unanimous. Reasoning is straight forward for all, added some extra info for dealias/deimply BURs because they may need more justification.

Approve

Aliases/Implications
  • topic #34046 (+8/-0) - cat_earS is already aliased to the disambiguation tag, the singular form should be as well
  • topic #34068 (+7/-1) - swamp_ass is an informal term for a sweaty_butt
  • topic #33837 (+6/-0) - "BBW" is already aliased to overweight_female, "SSBBW" (super sized BBW) should be aliased to obese_female
  • topic #34008 (+5/-0) - character is not associated with that comic, current name should be aliased to reina_(sachasketchy)
  • topic #23427 (+6/-0) - breasts_against_glass should be aliased to breasts_on_glass, *_on_glass is the format for all other body parts on glass.
  • topic #33568 (+8/-0) - waving at the viewer should imply waving in general
  • topic #33340 (+2/-0) - thigh jiggle, like all other *_jiggle tags, should imply jiggling
  • topic #33413 (+5/-0) - same meaning, just different wording
Multi-Tag BURs
  • topic #32347 (+6/-0) - common sense leg implications/aliases
  • topic #32297 (+6/-0) - unifying all office related clothing under one tag
  • topic #33825 (+3/-0) - writing_on_(body part) should inherently imply body_writing and the tag for the body part written on
  • topic #34097 (+6/-0) - (body part)_on_glass should inherently imply on_glass and the tag for the body part on glass

[/s]

Removing Aliases or Implications BURs
  • topic #29837 (+11/-0) - Alias causes hyper_belly to be muddied up between "impossibly large and disproportionate" belly vs "possibly unrealistic, but believable" belly, all other body parts with sizes have big/huge/hyper distinctions
  • topic #32984 (+10/-0) - Belly colour tags actually describe the colour of the character's abdomen, should not imply belly as per usage and wiki for belly, these implications are causing a flood of irrelevant posts under the tag.
  • topic #33991 (+14/-0) - GMILF/GILF refers to elderly female like MILF does mature female, older female is a relative tag, it automatically implies age difference, a teenage girl with her little sister invokes "older female"
  • topic #33010 (+10/-0) - Curvaceous should not imply voluptuous:
    • curvaceous is a redundant tag, it was intended to mean hourglass_figure big_breasts, the tag is entirely misunderstood by uploaders/taggers and wasn't useful to begin with
    • the implication causes voluptuous and curvaceous to be vague and unusable, as they're supposed to describe different body types
    • deimplying would be a first step to fixing voluptuous and curvy figure tags (including tag cleanup and wiki rewrites)
    • even the user that created curvaceous, and requested the implication in the first place later regretted it and even wanted to get rid of the tag altogether.

Reject

  • https://e621.net/tag_aliases/56226 - made this alias not really understanding how invalidating tags is done
  • topic #34337 (+0/-2) - alias I jumped the gun on, others made a good point that a direct alias to cat_humanoid could cause mistagged anthros
  • topic #24347 (+0/-2) - female_pred is the overwhelmingly popular term by # of posts, *_pred is the formatting for all predatory roles in vore, should be rejected to allow for a reverse alias, has been in queue for four years
  • topic #33336 (+1/-10) - augmented breasts sag too

Thank you, everyone, for your responses.
I will be working my way through them. If I have feedback on a specific request, I'll leave that in its own thread, not in here.

I'll also be editing your messages to cross out the requests I've already handled.
It's just for organization's sake. This way, I won't forget about stuff I left for later.
If that's not something you are okay with, let me know.

Long BURs like this are difficult to review =/
I know that they are straight-forward, but I do have to double check them anyways to make sure nothing will break.
There is no undo button for this sort of thing, so I have to be extra careful.

In the future, it would be better if you split BURs like this into multiple smaller ones.

Does the thumbs-up/down actually do anything besides show approval? Some time ago a few popular implications all got rejected so someone could put them all in one topic and That got approved. Seemed arbitrary.

And what is the BUR's Estimate? Is that like a waiting list number? I have a couple in the 800s.

And as a request, please reject alias #56924 (I kinda-sorta buried the topic when I put the same alias in a BUR. Already got chewed out once)

Nope. It's just a show of support.
Still helpful when it comes to determine whether a request is controversial or not.

glyme said:
And what is the BUR's Estimate?

The situation with all AIBURs is beyond dire.
There are no estimates for when any of them will be handled.

This is the point of this thread: to "bump" requests that you think should be handled as soon as possible.

I appreciate that you're taking the time to get so many of these handled , bitWolfy.

This is just my unasked for opinion, but for the other people sharing links:

While the massive colour implication BURs are needed, they seem pretty low priority. If bitWolfy is looking for requests that should be handled ASAP, we should focus on sharing AIBURs that are actively fixing tag issues (mistagging, bad implications/aliases, redundant tags) or are very clear implication/aliasing of single tags or small batches of related tags, and especially AIBURs that are months or years old.

Here's some more AIBUR that need attention, wasn't sure whether to add it to my previous post or just tack it on here...

Approve

topic #21688 (+13/-0) - teapot has more posts, a wiki article, and "teapot" is the proper spelling of the word, has been in queue for three years
topic #33848 (+6/-0) - y anus should imply anus like x anus does
topic #32712 (+7/-0) - horse_anus should be aliased to equine anus
topic #34343 (+7/-0) - catgirl is too vague and should be aliased to feline to prevent mistags, followup/correction to rejected alias in topic #34337
topic #32597 (+15/-0) - All posts tagged navel inherently feature an "exposed navel", tag is redundant and should be aliased away
topic #32042 (+14/-0) - multiple redundant tags for big butt
topic #32746 (+7/-0) - fat butt is redundant to big butt

Reject

topic #33806 (+0/-9) - flat_belly is undefined, but it definitely isn't midriff, this alias should be rejected, flat_belly should be made invalid, or aliased to invalid_tag.

The only way I can think of splitting up color tag BURs is having a bur for implications, and then a bur for aliases. Certainly do-able on my end if that helps makes things easier in the future, just lemme know.

Months-later edit: topic #33108 (4👍 0😑 0👎).

This is a now 5-part Digimon BUR. About 100 Digimon have passed under the radar, some with over 200+ pictures, and those are just among the ones I know we have art of on this site. It also has a few aliases and corrections

Please consider looking at it. If not approved right away, at least leave some feedback

forum #338753: This alias has already been made and approved, but for stupid technical reasons it had to be done as a mass update instead. Now that the problem's been solved, it should be done properly.

Updated by bitWolfy

I made a new copyright tag to unify the games made by zed_technician to make searching for their characters without hopping to individual game tags for different sets of characters, and it'd be helpful to have the game tags implicate this new one, i spent a while retrofitting it to all 116 relevant posts.

i'll do this too.

topic #26337 -> reject. not all thigh squishes are skindentations. the wiki for thigh_squish should be updated to include more non-clothing related scenarios like with breast_squish and similar tags.

topic #26338 -> approve. all skindentations feature a body part squish of some kind.

topic #26404 -> approve. a character that is begging for more is begging. i'm noticing that i wasn't too good at listing reasons back when i first joined the site.

topic #26434 -> ??? this one was downvoted with no explanation. the reason field was left blank, too. (curse you, past me.) looking back, i feel like this one should have been rejected. just because a character shoves their butt in another's face doesn't mean their head is between the cheeks. would appreciate feedback.

topic #29938 -> more feedback. there was a discussion but no one voted.

topic #30061 -> either reject or more feedback. i don't know if rearranging tag phrasing like this is a tall order or not, so i'd like to see what more people think.

topic #30159 -> more feedback. no one voted and some more insight would be greatly appreciated

topic #30290 -> approve. this one is fairly straightforward, i'd think. unless we aren't supposed to tag fictional universes like this.

topic #30369 -> more feedback. this one died out and i think it could use some more discussion on the distinction between squeezing and grabbing tags.

topic #30404 -> ??? this one contained a caching error that i messaged millcore about, though i'm not sure it ever got fixed or not. figured i should include it anyway

topic #31895 -> approve. just some aliases for a tag i created, pretty straightforward

topic #33646 -> more feedback. the difference between a sign and a shadow puppet might be more complicated than i once thought.

topic #33708 -> approve. everyone agreed with me, just didn't get officialized

topic #33810 -> approve. same reason as above.

topic #33904 -> approve. same reason as above.

topic #33927 -> maybe approve? i don't know if artists' old names should be aliases to their newer ones.

topic #34002 -> approve/more feedback. everyone thumbs upped but no one replied.

that's all for now. had more than i expected. thank you for doing this.

I think you’ve done more in the past 5 days than has been done in the past 5 months. Don’t apologize, and thank you. :3

EDIT: anyway, let me throw a few suggestions in for you to have a look at when you have the time:

Approve topic #32277 - 3👍 0😐 0👎
Bumping this to the top of my list because it’s the most urgent. This missing alias has been causing posts to be mistagged for a long time now, and at the time of writing the BUR I had cleared everything out so that the tag could be safely mass updated and then aliased away. In the time it’s been pending, a few more posts have ended up in this tag. I just now cleared them out again, so it should be good to go - hopefully before the tag gets used any more.

Approve topic #34050 - 2👍 1😐 0👎
Seems pretty straightforward - just getting rid of an unnecessary species tag (a very similar species already has the same alias) and adding an obvious implication. The one neutral voter didn’t give any reason why.

Reject topic #33882 and approve BUR #2557 (same thread) - 1👍 0😐 0👎
These are just a couple of aliases to find the artist more easily. I was on the artist’s Pixiv account, and their art on E621 is currently using their Twitter name, which is quite different. This would alias both the kanji and Google-translated romaji names from the artist’s Pixiv account to their Twitter name so users coming from their Pixiv account can find them here.

The original alias that the thread is based on was suggesting to alias マト to the Google-translated version of their name, as that was the tag that their art was posted under before I came across the artist, and I figured we should get rid of the kanji since those characters aren’t allowed. That request would now be invalid since their art is now under their Twitter name instead, so it can safely be rejected. However, if you want, you could probably alias that to their Twitter name, too. I left it out of the BUR since some people pointed out that several other artists on Pixiv are using that same name, but none of them draw anything remotely furry, and many wouldn’t pass quality standards anyway. The artist I’m aliasing to is likely the only one we’ll ever see here. But on the other hand, it’s probably not necessary, so I’ll leave that up to you.

Approve BUR #2452 - 7👍 0😐 0👎
Simply a common name aliased to a minor mlp character, easy fix

Approve topic #33532 - 4👍 0😐 0👎
Simple typo and duplicate tag fix

Approve topic #32817 - 1👍 0😐 0👎
At the time of writing, snake_tongue had 140 incorrect uses. It’s now up to 203. This should be an easy fix.

Approve BUR #2101 (and reject the OP) - 8👍 0😐 0👎
A simple incorrect implication that ought to be removed.

Approve topic #30325 (16👍 0😐 0👎 and BUR #2096 (4👍 0😐 0👎)
Simple disambiguation for a generic word/character tag.

Approve topic #32906 - 5👍 0😐 2👎
This seems very straightforward, IMO. I’m not sure what the two downvotes were for, as neither of them gave any reason for it.

Approve topic #32579 - 5👍 0😐 0👎
Just two lines in this BUR, both seem pretty obvious given the description of the tag.

Approve topic #32555 - 4👍 0😐 0👎
This is a larger BUR, but should be simple enough. It’s disambiguating two rather misused tags and setting up the proper implications for a few replacement tags.

Approve topic #31657 - 2👍 0😐 0👎
This is just self-explanatory.

Approve topic #31677 - 3👍 0😐 0👎
I’m sure this is a bad alias that never should’ve been made.

Approve topic #32554 - 8👍 0😐 0👎
A rather simple disambiguation for a tag that has been causing trouble for a long time now.

Approve topic #32300 - 1👍 0😐 0👎
Only 8 posts with this tag, but hey, a meme is a meme.

Approve BUR #2465 (2👍 2😐 0👎) and reject topic #32272 (4👍 3😐 8👎)
This is the only one in my list that was seemingly controversial, but I included it because I think it’s really, really, really obvious and I don’t think the disagreements make any sense. There have been countless identical aliases made in the past (snek, derg, pupper, etc.) and there’s not going to be any genuine confusion with any of the similarly named artist or character tags.

Approve topic #33582 - 15👍 3😐 1👎
It’s been bothering me for a long time that the male genitalia has such a comprehensive set of tags associated with it while the female genitalia is relatively neglected due to aliases like this. This would be one small but significant step towards remediating that situation.

Approve topic #33035 - 37👍 1😐 0👎

Admittedly, this would be a significant change and perhaps shouldn’t be taken lightly - however, given the overwhelming support, I think it’s safe to say that this change would be very welcome.

Updated by bitWolfy

topic #23647 - Approve, this thread is three years old and I think predates voting on suggestions

In my opinion: painting is a vague tag name and the posts tagged as painting vary between digital painting (artwork), painting (artwork)*, characters creating paintings, and scenes where framed paintings or paintings on easels are depicted, aliasing it to a disambiguation tag is a step towards fixing the tag, and allows topic #34431 to fix painting (artwork) (which has the same problems painting does)

Approve topic #29565 - 9👍 0😐 0👎
Sex toys in holes should imply some tags. TBH my main motivation for that is the sex_toy_in_pussy -> vaginal_penetration implication suggestion. Vaginal penetration is currently implied directly from dildo_in_pussy and buttplug_in_pussy, but not other sex toys like vibrators.

Updated by bitWolfy

topic #25285 - approve - alias bound_wings -> wings_tied - additional BUR approved, original alias forgotten.

topic #34395 - approve - imply high_heels -> footwear - wasn't implemented due to bug and forgotten.

topic #34417 and topic #23078 - reject - akimbo -> hands_on_hips - word "akimbo" has at least two meanings.

topic #34076 - approve - rainbow_pride_colors -> pride_colors - rainbow pride colors are pride colors.

topic #12971 - reject - magazine_cover is when whole image is in style of a front page, magazine is an object. Also, those tags could use clearer wording.

topic #30096 - approve - being plantigrade is the defining characteristic of human feet.

topic #45485 - reject - self_service_pump is rather ambiguous, should be mass updated or aliased to autofellatio_while_penetrated instead.

Updated

Forgot about this one.

Approve topic #32296 (+13/-0) Remove Double_Chin -> Dewlap Implication

It's an implication that makes no sense at all and was created without discussion. A double chin is excess fat under someone's chin, creating the appearance of multiple chins, and/or obscuring the actual chin. A double chin is not a dewlap. A dewlap is a loose fold of skin that hangs off the throat or neck regardless of how fat one is, sometimes looks like a ring of thick fur around the neck (rabbit dewlaps) which is the closest a dewlap might resemble a double chin, but is still visibly distinct from an actual double chin.

The dewlap tag is full of overweight/obese characters that have double chins rather than dewlaps. I've already created a set to help remove the dewlap_(anatomy) tag from posts that only have double chins, if/when this deimplication goes through.

Unicode Removal BURs, back from the time when we were going to get rid of Unicode tags.

I know that é is now an exception due to Pokémon (curse you), but what about other characters like á í ó ú à è ì ò ù ã õ ç et cetera? If we are still going to get rid of those, then approve please.

Otherwise... well, you know.

I think this is something that needs a good discussion, tags like süleymλn and others that randomly use a jumble of Unicode characters for purely aesthetic purposes aren't something we need to support. If we're supporting é for Pokémon it seems to make sense to also support the other acute accents (á é í ó ú) for consistency purposes. There's also problems replacing characters with diacritics that it can end up becoming a complete different word, like in Spanish the word "ano" (anus) and "año" (year). Not supporting these characters also leads to having to decide whether we go with the "correct" transliteration or the "nicer looking" (but technically incorrect) way (like topic #23863)

I don't really see a problem with Latin alphabet characters with diacritics, but that's the point I think it should stop. We don't want emojis, random Greek letters in the middle of artist names, artist tags in Katakana, etc.

Personally can't wait for the heated discussion of whether ōkami should be okami, oukami or ookami if we continue on this path

most of these aren't even Unicode characters, though. as far as I'm aware all of the diacriticized letters used in germanic and romance languages already exist in ASCII and then a bit more, so there's no reason to get rid of stuff that uses, é, ñ, or even stuff like µ, which isn't currently used anywhere, but still.
the only stuff that actually were unicode characters, was the person with the lambda in their name and any of the romanji tags that use stuff like ō. everything else is ASCII (or has ASCII variants).

Some tag alias/implication requests I made recently:
- implication: park_bench -> bench (or the same alias (hidden))
- alias: danwolf -> danwolf15 (same artist)
- alias: andrejskalin -> askalin (same artist)

OT: I'd like to be able to see the up/downvote counts on such request even when not logged in (not who just how many)

None of them are true ASCII characters either. Your source even has them under "The extended ASCII codes (character code 128-255)" and states:

There are several different variations of the 8-bit ASCII table. The table below is according to Windows-1252 (CP-1252) which is a superset of ISO 8859-1, also called ISO Latin-1, in terms of printable characters, but differs from the IANA's ISO-8859-1 by using displayable characters rather than control characters in the 128 to 159 range. Characters that differ from ISO-8859-1 is marked by light blue color.

-> Only the lower 7bit contain truly universal ASCII characters. The 8th bit ones depend on your local codepage

I for one can type pokèmon with my keyboard layout fairly easy - how difficult is it for US layout users type ÖÄÜ?
-> I vote for only allowing 7bit ASCII (printable) in tag names. Anything else opens up a can off worms of varying sizes (eg. Unicode's -> 8bit ASCII's).
