The tag alias #56267 doom -> doom_(series) has been rejected.

Reason: only has 9 posts as of writing and all of them are for the doom games (even the wiki page is just a worse version of the proper doom tag)

Doom is a generic term, it can also mean death, destruction, or any very bad situation that cannot be avoided.

Suggest to mass update, then invalidate.

Report: Of the 975~ posts ever tagged with doom, most were updated to doom_(series), 182 were deleted, and only 32 were true mistags (that is, do not have doom_(series) now). You can view them at set #32804.

Of the mistags, about 8 appear to be for disastrous events, 7 appear to be for miscellaneous characters, 1 was a true typo, and the rest appear to be true mistakes.

I think usage for disastrous events should be invalid, because of how vague the word "doom" is in that sense.

For characters: There are three. 1 for doom_(moomoonoodle) on post #2118403. 1 for doom_(character) on post #1502364. And 5 for "Doom" from Dota. See the wiki, which refers to him as Doom. On e621, that character is currently referred to as lucifer_the_doom_bringer. You can see the mistags here: set:bad_doom lucifer_the_doom_bringer.

The true typo is post #post #2758812, where the artist name siren_doom was presumably input as siren doom.

Lastly, by "true mistakes, I mean the tagger intended doom_(series) but wrong. For example, visually similar ips, like agony_(copyright) (post #1626214) or master_chief from halo (post #150712) or Quake (post #1696337) or whatever post #1073421 is. There was also a doom mod, guncaster, which someone apparently disambiguated from doom? See comments on post #1623848.

Since there have been 7 reasonable conflicts in the history of the tag (0.1% ~1.5% conflict rate), I think an alias is ok here.

That math doesn't seem accurate. 7/975 = 0.7%. Also, since the 8 appearing to be for disastrous events is relevant when talking about conflicting usage (it's a valid way to think about the scene, even if the tag is incorrect; it becomes ambiguous) it's more like 15/975 = 1.5%.

I did not suggest that doom be turned into a tag for "disastrous events", I'm saying that people can mistakenly define doom as "disastrous events" as apparent by your statistics report.
That would bring the total of reasonable conflicts up to 15, which would be around 1.53% error rate by the way.

In addition, you have also given examples as to how doom can refer to multiple different characters, including one character from a popular franchise.

I would say an invalidation (or disambiguation) would be more appropriate.

Alright, sure. I have decided, completely arbitrarily, that my cutoff for acceptable false positive rates for aliases is 1%. Since 1.5% is greater than that, I'll vote for disambiguation instead.

Seems like that happens rarely. Also, when writing the tag in normal tools, the alias would display on popup: doom -> doom_(series).

But disambiguation would suit too. It would help with doctor_doom too, albeit I'm not sure how much of him we'll be seeing here any more.

I am guessing it failed because you had accidentally approved an alias for doom -> doom_(series) (see alias #59737) before requesting for the disambiguation.
