Topic: [REJECTED] Getting rid of lizzard (BUR)

change category lizzard (1) -> invalid

Reason: lizzard is a common-enough typo that something ought to be done with it. All the posts under it seem to be typos of lizard, but given that there are artists/characters with similar names (lizzard_ych, da-lizzard, l1zz4rd's Lizzard, Mr. Lizzard, I think it'll be safest to invalidate the whole tag.

If they’re all typos of lizard, better to alias it to lizard. Most people who use the tag probably aren’t going to check to see that they’ve used an invalid tag, and none of the other things with that name seem common enough that it’ll cause any genuine problems. Of all the things you listed, only lizzard_ych has a tag here, and only about twenty posts with it. That name is sufficiently dissimilar that I don’t believe there will be any confusion. Anyone tagging/searching the artist will most likely think to include the “ych” suffix.

I ran across lizzard a few times. We do need to hammer this into shape. My original thought was to alias it to lizard, but the various Lizzard artists tell me disambiguation would be better.

alias lizzard -> lizzard_(disambiguation)
category lizzard_(disambiguation) -> invalid

Personally I think making it aliased to Lizard is the best option. Since typos tends to come into play the most when people just write common words, not artist or character names.

Though, personally I find the "invalid tag" thing a bit inept in a lot of situations. Sometimes when one posts a new image there is the "invalid tag" there, but one don't know which tag(s) were invalid, nor were they logged as removed. And when one has written 20+ tags, it an be hard to know which one didn't go through. But this is a different discussion.

create alias lizzard (1) -> lizard (55978)

Reason: …bit of a necro on this thread, but okay. I’m going to reiterate that none of the other tags are going to be confused for this one. We have a grand total of four different tags (that aren’t embedded within another word, like “blizzard”) that include “lizzard”. Two artists, two characters. All very sufficiently different that nobody will legitimately use the tag “lizzard” simply trying to look for the artist or character. Unless maybe they used a space instead of an underscore, but that’s a common problem and treating that with disambiguation would imply that every single-word tag would have to be disambiguated and suffixed, which would be absurd.

In all likelihood, the people using this tag are either:

  • using it as a joke spelling of lizard (akin to snek, derg), in which case it should be aliased to lizard
  • a genuine typo, possibly by people for whom English is not a first language and have not yet perfectly memorized which words have double consonants and which do not. Remember that the double Z is pretty common in English, seen in words like blizzard, jazz, muzzle, fuzzy, pizza, nuzzle, nozzle, etc. I mean, English isn’t the easiest language, and aspects like this can be especially confusing. So, let’s assume that some people may be genuinely confusing these words, and rather than further confuse them with a needless disambiguation, simply redirect them to the one tag that they were, in all likelihood, actually looking for.

So please, no disambiguation. It’s completely unnecessary and 100% unhelpful.

Yes, the alias is the simple solution. honestly, I personally end up writing Lizzard more often than not... Only the spell checker reminds me it is in fact wrong.

Making it a disambiguation is just giving people a confusing dead end.
And making the tag "Lizzard" invalid is an even bigger "Fuck you" to people trying to find a Lizard.

Those searching for the few artists and characters witting thier name as "Lizzard" will just have to be mindful of how the artist/character name is spelt. Not like there is a lot of other artist/character names with even more quirky writing on the site.
