Aliasing cloth → cloth_(disambiguation)
Link to alias

Reason:

Ambiguous.
This won't be fun to sort out. Mix of loincloth, cloth_gag,
washcloth, generic clothing that some tagger shortened to cloth, and some things that I don't even know how to tag. Such as bolts of fabric, and these:

There's also some of those ribbons that are used in dancing. No idea what those are actually called.

The fabric tag is almost as messy as this.

EDIT: The tag alias cloth -> cloth_(disambiguation) (forum #239452) has been rejected by @Rainbow_Dash.

I've been using cloth for images where there's a strip of cloth that can't be tagged as something else.

If I am not wrong, those are called 'textile' (a simple fabric piece, commonly used as sewing material).

Edit: and +1, of course.

So depictions of nondescript pieces of fabric material should then be tagged as cloth_(fabric)? Or should we stick with and cleanup the fabric tag?

The trick to this is that fabric is a component of many distinctive objects, such as clothing and bedding. But we also need a tag for when there's just a piece of cloth lying around or being interacted with, similar to how the ambiguous/non-specific liquid tag is used for unidentifiable fluids.

Actually neither options seem efficient:

I) The former don't make sense. Suffixes are created to specify, but since both tags are pretty similar, using one as a suffix for the other hardly would work (it would be like creating a 'globe_(sphere)' tag).

II) The latter probably wouldn't work as well. Given the ambiguity of 'fabric' it would easily get mesy again, don't matter how many time we spend cleaning it

Actually (if my memory doesn't fools me) 'liquid' is one tag we are trying to get rid of, we already have an 'ambiguous_fluids' tag and we also could create an 'unknown_liquid'empty tag if necessary.

-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-

I wonder if 'textile' would work as a tag; it isn't a common word, but apparently it is compatible with the idea of "simple piece of cloth".

I can't imagine anyone searching for generic scraps of cloth, but how about piece_of_cloth? If it's something that can't be identified as anything else.

Actually 'piece_of_cloth'empty sounds like something that could easily be attributed to a piece clothing made of cloth.

As far as I know, those "simple cloths" are called 'textiles' (as mentioned earlier), however I don't know if that word would suit as a tag, also the fact of everyone be ignoring this information isn't helping to figure out.
