Topic: [Rule Change] Explicit young human and human-like content is no longer allowed to be posted.

It's one thing to necessitate the removal of this stuff to keep the site afloat.
It's another to do it without giving prior notice so people can save their shit.
How long until these "business partners" take issue with cub, rape, violence, gore, slurs, etc.
You gave them an inch. Hope it was worth it, because that's not gonna be the end of it.

Fanfiction.net goes down, e621 starts burning down the archives. If you still have art you like up I'd save it and prepare to bounce. Things are getting stupid! I anticipate Patreon is about to make a big push (again) too, or F-list. This smells like payment processor involvement.

I think a certain popular domain registry is the business partner making demands.

The reality is that is very likely not going to stop at banning lolis, afterward it will be guro then rape, ferals and so on.

patreon arleady does they are banning bdsm depiction of alcohol use, animals genitals and ferals.

honestly patreon seems on its way to ban everything but piv sex in the missionary position between a married couple. wouldn't use it if my life depended on it, but there are people who's lives do actually depend on it, and are forced to put up with it's squeaky clean bullshit, and i feel bad for them.

Thank you for at least disclosing the general stance on the matter. Nonetheless, a warning beforehand would've been nice. It'd give people the chance to archive the archive. "Due to legal and financial obligations we are forced to remove a chunk of the content within next two days" would've gone a lot smoother than "It's gone, fuck you."

NotMeNotYou mentioned that there was a steep and sudden deadline here: https://e621.net/forum_topics/45501?page=3#forum_post_411322

In other words "We are putting our userbase second to our business partners, willing to go back on our core values."
You are the biggest site for this kind of work, you do not have any staunch competition. These kinds of changes will increase the chance of this site being outcompeted by a new site.
Lets hope this isn't just the start to "cleaning up" what can be posted.

It was already stated that the business partners in question were not advertisers in a previous post by NMNY. The third link above specifies that exact groups or laws won't be named because of the risk of attracting more heat. We do not want to direct users to specific target(s) and make the situation worse for us or anyone who wants to continue using the site.

We aren't happy about this type of situation, either. It's a blow to archival, it sucks that we can't be more transparent without hurting the site further, and it hurts people who want to access to specific fictional content without restrictions. We'd *really* prefer that the situation doesn't escalate or that external pressure ramps up to include other content. NMNY is correct in that the right course of action is to voice opposition to laws and policies regarding access to fictional online content, as media that doesn't hurt any living being should not be arbitrarily banned.

Is there anything i can do to ask for a wrongly deleted image to be reinstated? There's a lot of art that was wrongly tagged as either humanoid or young

And do you think there is hope? Once the aforementioned politics calm down, do you think the files can return? Or at least they can be uploaded again. Or do you think this will be something truly permanent? what do you think?

On the plus side, this may force the staff to reverse their decision.

Yes, there is a dedicated thread to list false positives and have them be reinstated here: https://e621.net/forum_topics/45525

As mentioned before by NotMeNotYou, this was a blanket deletion due to the very limited time we had available to make the change: https://e621.net/forum_topics/45501?page=3#forum_post_411322. This can be due to either wrongfully tagged posts, posts with an adult human and young anthro characters, or many other situations. We are trying to restore everything that was deleted as a result as quickly as possible while juggling regular site operation.

The site's advertising is all community-based, it's a folder of randomly-selected GIFs. There were no advertising companies to piss off.

If true then this complete bullshit that they’re doing this. I want a clear reason as for why.

And you have piss and Cub in yours… the point?

As I said before this post, I’m leaving this thread. I know no one here actually cares and just wants to jerk it to child-like characters.

The point is I'm not trying to act holier than thou on a fucking furry porn website. Look at where you are.

I'm assuming this is a change that was unavoidable and was a matter of time of being implemented? There are some artists who do make Young Human characters in their works, it could be ideal to inform them that they should make changes to their art, including making their human characters more young adult (20s-30s) or adult (30+), just to avoid any unpleasantness for all involved. I don't think a lot of people will like this change, some will like it, some won't. Regardless at the end of the day, this rule was made for good reasons.

Artists shouldn't ahve to cnesor themselves, at all

This isn't the first time something like this happened. Remember when BD removed all their reference images for their dildos as soon as mainstream porn started using them. And now barely references how they're animals at all. E6 is gonna be like that soon

Honestly should have just let the site go down and kept your integrity. Its not like it would have hurt anyone here, nobody gets paid to help this shithole to begin with. We volunteer to keep this place going then are told to bend over and take it from some mysterious non-advertiser corpo. How are we supposed to voice our opinions to them if we don't even know who they are?

i would much rather a certain type of content be temporarily removed from public view than the entire website be permanently shut down. the mods have made it pretty clear that they aren't happy with the change either but i suspect that the "mysterious non-advertiser corpo" is their hosting company or something similar, and they could have had the plug pulled on them if they didn't comply. plus they're working towards finding an alternative solution and all the content is still on their servers, just hidden from users.

Temporarily? Do you actually believe that at all? Please be realistic, it is never coming back.

If you take the time to read through the full thread you see that it was outside political pressures threatening the livelihoods of the business partners that caused this to happen so suddenly.

Essentially, its on the political climate of the world as to why this happened, they were forced to or E621 would have stopped existing. If we had lost everything, you wouldn't be able to be here to complain about only losing 50k artworks that can be brought back should things change.

It's wishy washy because it's the best we can offer. There is no single law we can point to as the tipping point, and while we were sitting pretty unaffected by most things, the same can't be said to a bunch of our business partners who did not appreciate the heat we attract.
And since we can't function in a vacuum we have had to adjust.

I've had a quick look through and restored anything caught by accident in your deletions that stuck out right away.
This entire thing had to happen much faster than we would have liked, so we went in with a shoot first ask questions later mentally.

Trust me, I would have preferred more of a heads up myself.

So who threatened you all, and with what?

how is it any more realistic to believe that the entire website is going to go down in flames and everything is going to be banned? it's pretty easy to piece together what's going on, and there's no reason to believe that the staff are lying, deleted everything out of spite, and are only going to continue deleting things. put down your pitchfork for a little bit.

look on the bright side: think this means we might get more adult femboy content which is my absolute favorite. stay believing

should additudes and circumstances improve, will the images be automatically reuploaded, or will they be allowed to be manually reuploaded?

The site apparently didn't have any issues talking about the (now vetoed) Arizona bill, but now naming laws that've hurt the integrity of the site is a no-go? It isn't like you're disclosing someone's private information.

so let me get this right you have a list that can block\unblock anything that some people don't want to see on this site, instead of upgrading it you decided to delete all these artists hard artwork for a bunch of normies, who doesn't care about this website and the only reason why they come here is to find something to bitch about just like how they do on Twitter x and another things about these people they will delete their comments and block people, all because they don't like being in the wrong or losing their control over people, after people call them out on their shit also here another thing if you so afraid of these types of people why didn't you did this back in 2020 instead of years later which beg the question what would you be getting from this e621? What is the real reason for this bull shit

Oh yeah, this also reminded me: there's a bunch of other places where certain types of contents are hidden by default (it's specially evident in Derpibooru, where the default General filter is very restrictive, or e-hentai where there's always a warn when opening a gallery containing gore or scat will warn you so you can back off before you make a mistake), so this whole decision of "let's purge this" instead of "let's just hide this by default and allow users to opt out of the filter" is just super shady.

i don't think they (or any species of pokemon, for that matter) are explicitly banned but if any art of them was tagged as both "humanoid" and "young" then that's probably been removed and may not be reinstated unless/until the entire ban on young humans/humanoids is lifted

Right I wasn’t, trying to say that any Pokemon were straight up banned. Just seems like they shouldn’t really fall under that given their appearance. But tags gonna tag I guess. Hopefully the Kirlia stuff gets reinstated, since that seems a little silly to me.

This is nonsense. Antis hate "cub" art too. They hate feral, as well. This won't satisfy anyone. It's just stupid.

Can we please get the issue straight, people? The idea of young human characters getting removed is basically irrelevant, the real issue is that it's not just lolisho stuff, but anything that's arbitrarily young and human-like.

I think even the first page specifies that young draenei will be deleted and there's no good place to draw the line, so a colossal amount of art is up for deletion and it's only going to keep going as long the mods just let these companies enforce their values and destroy the artistic freedoms of the fandom.

Even if you're somehow thinking 'I don't care, this just affects pedos', you're still going to miss out on the art of a dozen artists that now just can't post here because they're not conforming to an acceptable art style with palatable content.

I've come here to assess the situation and try to improve it. I want to ask, just how many pokemon tags in total were affected by this change? Because I seriously doubt it's only kirlia/ralts.

Well shit, I was wondering what happened. I see some posts of mine got hit in the crossfire cause of tags even tho they don't have loli/shota humans.

Man, what a thing to learn about when signing in today.

technically probably a fair amount, it's pretty agreed upon that it was a wipe of "young ~human ~humanoid -rating:s" but no singular tag was completely wiped

Any plans to change the previous suggestion to apply the "young" tag very broadly for the sake of blacklists?

I won't pretend that I'm not one of the people who's got it blacklisted, but it seems a bit difficult to square banning images with a (combination of) tag(s) while also wanting it to be used freely.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread, but I just went through a ton of posts to find falsely removed ones, and like half the sources (if not more) were dead links. That's depressing...

Are we, though? Or are we all just sitting here in our furry blue hexagonal bubble bitching back and forth with zero practical activity happening? The people fighting for positive change throughout history didn't say "well we'll just do what they say for now because if we win enough elections we can do what we want again" as if that's going to make a difference (Look up George Carlin's routines on "the illusion of choice"). The way forward is through defiance. Yeah, it's tough and it's painful but that's how things get better. Changing the rules to bend the knee to censorious leeches then saying "maybe we'll be able to go back to the way things were if the people I like get elected" is lazy and ignorant.

And yeah, I am well aware that right now we're just talking about silly furry porn. But you and I both know that it doesn't stop here. Right now we're the low hanging fruit, but that just means once we're gone it'll be something else that's the new low hanging fruit. And it won't stop until the tree is stripped bare and burnt to ash. If it can be stopped now then let's stop it now.

16 year old redditors when they think they have the world figured out.
I know the concept of continuing activism outside of the internet is strange to some people but just because you think we're only arguing on a website doesn't mean that it's all the rest of us do.

jacethehybrid said:
Or used it as a reference, and more. Depending on the state, It’s completely banned. If you ask me, anything depicting anyone not of age in such situations is at the very least morally fucked up.

Oh yeah, we can agree that it’s sorta morally dubious at best, but I come from the perspective that… so what? It’s dubious in the sense that a lot of kinks are; keep it to yourself and whatever. I don’t think it’s worth criminalizing though, at least due to the slippery slope it starts.

Posts that were caught in the blanket delete can be restored as they're found. There's a forum post here where you can add links to any posts that were wrongfully deleted: https://e621.net/forum_topics/45525

Could you say exactly which tags were affected?

Would any moderators be interested in taking a stab about the precedent this could set?

I imagine there’s been some internal discussion despite the timeframe seeming messy, are y’all antsy about the idea of these demands letting their foot get into the door to make more ridiculous changes?

I don’t want to be the doomsday “You’re next, buckaroo” guy, but if their whole principle is “obscenity” at best, wouldn’t basically everything here be “obscene” to the pearl-clutching folks who make that shit up?

I'm both curious and confused as to how naming laws risks drawing more attention to anyone or anything. Naming groups would draw attention to those groups, but what does naming laws draw attention to? I ask because I would very much like to know both how and where the enforcement of the law has changed. Are there suddenly a bunch of prosecutors somewhere and at some level that are big fans of obscenity law? That's what I'd expect, and I don't see who or what is at risk in answering that question.

zarbydafurry said:

i'm honestly not sure what you're asking? any tag could have been affected if it had any post that met the guidelines for posts to be taken down. i'm not sure what tags were the most affected. my best guess would be to ask one of the staff?
