shemagh
The shemagh (also known as either a keffiyeh/kufiya, ghutrah, ḥaṭṭah, mashadah, chafiye, or cemedani) is a traditional Middle Eastern headdress traditionally fashioned from a square scarf. It is commonly found in arid regions as it provides protection from sunburn, dust and sand.
While most well known and worn as a headdress, it often is worn as a neck accessory similar to the bandanna or the neckerchief. It often is worn on the neck in places such as Japan, in which it is a popular fashion accessory with teenagers alongside camo clothing.
