So, the hot topic lately is 'ZOMG FUCKING PONIES GET THE GODDAMN HELL OFF' etc etc.

A lot of people are complaining that FiM is 'taking over the site' and 'extreme spam' and 'doesn't belong'

Now, the slightly more sane ones compare FiM to Pokemon, which is a fitting comparison and one that I'll be using in this thread.

(I'm not going to even acknowledge 'does not belong' arguments from users, because that has been fucking settled ages ago, despite morons still thinking they are the enforcers of site regulations)

Now, we start with finding the totals of tag numbers and the first post we can find of each.

For FiM, that is 2306 total, with the first one posted 5 months ago. post #106683

For Pokemon, that is 10910, with the first one posted ~4 years ago. post #147

[Note: I am aware these are all approximate, as deleted posts count towards total post count and dates are not exact.]

So, using MATHS, we have:
2306/5 = 461.2 per month
10910/[4*12] = 227.9 per month (4*12 is 48 for you lazy folk out there)

Now, divided that by 30, the average amount of days in a month.

461.2/30 = 15.37
227.9/30 = 7.57

So what this means is FiM, since starting on this site, has generated 15 posts per day, and Pokemon has generated 8 per day (rounding up here) ON AVERAGE

FiM generates nearly double what Pokemon generates, however, Pokemon has been around nearly 10 times longer, and STILL averages 8 per day.

Law of averages states that once this FiM fad ends, should it ever, that the post per day of FiM will go down, either equal to, or likely less than, (considering popularity of Pokemon vs FiM) Pokemon.

So, basically what I'm saying here, is that Pokemon is vastly more present than FiM on e621, yet rarely do you find somebody bitching about it (or at the very least, not in the quantities directed at FiM.) Not to mention, Pokemon oft has human characters in it, sometimes ONLY human characters, whereas FiM, in the show itself, has no humans whatsoever.

Now, this is not strictly a defense of FiM thread, as I agree that, despite averages, it does flood a bit. However, this is a call to stop goddamn bitching, because when you DO look at averages, there's not much call out there to complain about quantity.

That's all I have to say about this, and if anybody actually read that and would like to correct my math, please do so, as I hate math and usually avoid it like the plague. If I've made an error and one of you can point it out in a way that makes sense to me, I'll edit the post to reflect that.

I would much rather prefer INTELLECTUAL debate in this thread, and I hope you can keep from flaming each other long enough to think things through BEFORE you post.

I was momentarily unconvinced when you said pokemon "still averages 8 a day," as that's a vague statement. Eight a day today? Averaged 8 a day this week? This year? Was it 500 in one day then nothing for the next 24 months? But then I looked and saw that more than 8 were in fact posted within the last 24 hours.

Right now FiM has the novelty boost; the series just came out so it's garnering a lot of fans very quickly (who in turn generate shed-loads of artwork).

Pokemon was already a well-established series by the time e621 came about, so its post income was much more consistent.

As for why it has such a following in the first place, I can't tell you exactly. It's just something that caught on. I'm a pretty big FiM fan because I've watched the show, saw it was of good quality, and enjoyed it. While the large fan base is largely responsible for exposing me to the show in the first place, it has nothing to do with why I continue to watch it. I watch it because I like it.

Just think, all that time you devoted to writing out that ginormous rant is time you will never get back.

If you look closely, there tends to be a pattern. There are:

Those who like the background characters (Derpy, Whooves, etc)

Those who like the Princesses (Luna, Celestia)

Those who like the main cast.

Those who like every single thing ever about MLP.

I do a lot of work around behind the scenes on the MLP Uploading, I keep an eye out at all times for anything human, anything memetic, anything that doesn't deserve to be here. If you've actually "Been" to "Ponibooru" instead of just saying oh hey its there, a good 70% of its art is meme's, including advise posters, "TV" meme's, and reposts of meme's. Just yesterday they had a five page long "meme" war.

This is all avoided on E621, on top of that, some people on E621 LIKE ponies, this makes it relevant to the site even if its a small demographic. It don't matter weather you like it or not, I absolute hate Krystal, I hate Renamon, their not going anywhere. And before you start, no, MLP is not "Hipster" I don't know who started that, but they really need to look up hipster in the dictionary. In matter of fact, I'm amazed MLP doesn't have more art then it does, given it started in the early 80's, but thats what a HUGE popularity boom like the behind MLP has for it.

Pokemon has stagnated, Sonic has stagnated, and personally, I hope they both rot and die and are forgotten, just like some do for MLP.

TL:DR: I moderate MLP for the other mods to make their lives easier. Furries like MLP. MLP is Relevant to the site. MLP Isn't going anywhere.

I don't have preferential treatment, none of us uploaders do. If I step out of line, I can be damn sure Auralia will come up and slap me upside the head for being bad. Your whole "You have an upgraded account" argument is moot, as my main account hasn't BEEN upgraded. And if Auralia didn't, you can be damn sure Char or Tony would.

Thing is, I've done nothing wrong. I've stayed completely within the sites rules, uploading, tagging, commenting, everything is nice and spick and span. The reason I got my uploaded account was due to my moderation of other MLP Uploaders, my OCD tagging style, my OCD with uploading unique non-seen before pieces of art. If you actually look around, say, Ippiki, or Queue, or those others who upload and tag mass ammounts, they also have upgraded accounts.

e621 is, and has never been, a porn site. it's an image archive. THAT is what Arcturus intended it to be. That's what it is now.

MLP really is spam. I have it on my blacklist and ever since I put it there, my front page of most recent submissions has been 3/4 the size it used to be at best, but is on average half or only a quarter of the size.

Maybe I'm just looking at the wrong times, but it looks like nearly 50% of all new submissions when I check it are MLP based.

This is no longer E621. It has become MLP621.

I upload the large batch early in the day, and sometimes at night in space increments of maybe one or two photos every few hours. MLP has so many photos right now, because its off the walls popular. Ponibooru gets about 20 pages a day, e621 gets "Maybe" two pages a day. Do the math on how many of those images dont make it onto here.

Then if there really is a site for this, why post it here on a general site? Keep it condensed in one place and be done with it. No matter how much MLP art gets uploaded, it doesn't affect the amount of other art uploaded. It's just more art overall that's available. Find art that you like, and upload it to share it with others. If everyone does that, there'll be plenty for everyone to enjoy.

ok. Lets do some very basic math here. E621 gets maybe, 20-40 pictures of ponies a day, depending on the uploads of other users on a given day this can be a very negligable amount, or pretty large {Usually ippiki and queue upload about 150 pictures, - 300 pictures a day, of varying furry artists and qualities}. Now, thats a page, maybe a page and a half a day.

Now, Ponibooru gets 20 pages a day, keeping in mind that only Good Art gets posted in E621, and any meme's, reposts, and humans are deleted. 1.5 pages, verse 20 uploaded in a single day. Clearly, this means something is being uploaded on Ponibooru that is not getting uploaded on E621 on a daily bases, and in very large amounts. Now, what could this possibly be, that E621 has disallowed, and is constantly deleted.

That, would be, memetic screen-caps, image macros, and "You Tube Captions" as they call it. one piece of art per ten image macros. These have not made their way onto E621, and will never do so, which makes it a more then ideal place for the nicer pieces of Art to reside, without being bogged down by fifty pages of memes between singular good art piece. However, just because you do not "Enjoy" the content matter, does not make the art "Bad", nor does it bring into question the mentality of the people who "enjoy" it.

If you don't like it, do the site a favor, upload more furry art, maybe some shitty sonic or Pokemon art, and fill in the gaps. Even I take pauses to upload other content on my main account when Ippiki and Queue are no where to be seen. {Excluding Renamon, Pokemon, Krystal, Arctica Sparkle, and Digimon, as well as my own blacklisted images}. Again, Crying, bitching, and complaining does nothing to fix the problem. If you want more furry art up, find, and upload more furry art.

Edit: And, on a subnote, if we were to keep "dedicated" image site stuff off E621, E621 would be missing a Massive level of pictures, as nekos have their own dedicated site, as does anime, Meme's, Sonic, Pokemon, and Digimon, as well as "Nintendo" sites. Pokemon is one of our largest tagged images, right up there with gender tags, and sharing the first page. Double edit: Poniboorus Tagging system is complete Shit. It's impossible to find a single image there, their entire tagging system is at best 5 tags long, has absolutely no moderation, and often ends up in "tagging Wars"

I adore E621 for its far superior tagging system, and the fact the moderators here actually "do" something. The tagging wars, dear god the tagging wars *Curls up in a corner*

If you don't like it, do the site a favor, upload more furry art, maybe some shitty sonic or Pokemon art, and fill in the gaps. Even I take pauses to upload other content on my main account when Ippiki and Queue are no where to be seen. {Excluding Renamon, Pokemon, Krystal, Arctica Sparkle, and Digimon, as well as my own blacklisted images}. Again, Crying, bitching, and complaining does nothing to fix the problem. If you want more furry art up, find, and upload more furry art.

Edit: And, on a subnote, if we were to keep "dedicated" image site stuff off E621, E621 would be missing a Massive level of pictures, as nekos have their own dedicated site, as does anime, Meme's, Sonic, Pokemon, and Digimon, as well as "Nintendo" sites. Pokemon is one of our largest tagged images, right up there with gender tags, and sharing the first page. Perhaps you didn't notice my first post in this thread or maybe you willfully ignored it, however day after day, week after week when I come here several times a day to see new submissions, regularly more than half the front page of submissions is missing. There are only two tags on my blacklist: my little pony and friendship is magic. Perhaps for a day or two of this, or maybe a week straight I could understand having a flux of new MLP art being uploaded right when I decide to refresh the page, but this has now been happening for months straight almost without fail. I find it difficult to believe I have miraculously chosen the times of day to refresh this site and take a look, catching yourself or other MLP fans in the middle of one of your several times per day bulk MLP art uploads and almost never at any other time. The numbers of MLP art seem far more numerous than what you're claiming, and despite your claim, I'm currently not seeing any evidence besides your hearsay to back this up.

Your suggestion however is none of my concern. I may from time to time upload pictures that I have commissioned or in some cases made myself, but I will not upload art of others. Unless the art legally belongs to me, I have no business distributing it as I please. If the artist or owner wants their art submitted here, they can do so themselves.

You say this like you assume I have problems with the idea of seeing 'art' of Renamon, Pokemon, Krystal and the like vanishing. By all means, please feel free to get rid of the LOT of them.

But, while we're at it, since a lot of people have problems with herms and will bitch about those, lets just axe those too. that's another 3848 down the drain. Oh, and not everyone likes fatties, so lets axe them too, 4226 more down the drain.

What you have to keep in mind is, if the admins cave in and let one group axe another, eventually, nothings going to be left because all the groups are going to try to kill each other off, so they can have "Their" stuff on E6 without being interrupted by all they stuff "They" don't like.

*sighs* Apparently asking the majority of artists and commissioners to do something relatively unique instead of taking someone else's intellectual property and twisting it slightly to upload as their work is asking a little too much. Using original characters seems to strain the brains of most people, apparently.

We're not removing anything. So more people bitching about it isn't going to help get your point across or whatever... you're better off saving your energy for other things.

Never said it was broken. I said it was injured in a way that prohibits a lot of movement. If you must know, it's a combined muscular, tendon and nerve injury (extremely inflamed tendons, pinched nerves and minute tears to the muscle) that takes about half a year with careful exercises and physio to heal properly. Only those who do strenuous exercise for a living and have a very specific accident and then keep exercising get it (because it's a bit of pain at the scene but nothing lasting, until you keep putting strain on it over the next few weeks)

Original character are fine and dandy (there's quite a few up on the site, in fact), but the MLP stuff is fan art. If they enjoy a show, why shouldn't they draw characters from it?

I never said they weren't allowed to draw them. I never said they weren't allowed to share them. What I said was I was getting sick of the sheer quantity of this shit. In just 5 months, MLP has racked up over 1/4 of the pictures on this site that Pokemon has, and Pokemon has been around now for over a decade. Half my front page is regularly missing because it's all MLP shit.
