I recently learned that a lot of common music is just saying the same thing incessantly for three to four minutes, it's irritating as fuck.

This song... Has thrown me for a complete loop.
Diddy Kong's voice is so bad. Just, awful, and not even in a funny way.
And yet they got someone who could actually sing for Donkey Kong? And they actually managed to give him some catchy parts?
Also the delivery of the "can you pass me a banana little buddy?" prior to the song genuinely made me laugh.
The animation... the lyrics... everything about Diddy... It's all awful, so why is there that redeemable nugget stuck in there? Why isn't it entirely bad? Did they just get lucky hiring? Did they actually try to get someone competent? If the latter, why didn't they bother to get someone competent for the rest of it?
Okay well. Since I linked something terrible, I might as well have the decency to link something good as well.

01:01:36 - Ex World of Battle (Final Boss Phase 1)
01:06:09 - Last World of Battle (Final Boss Phase 2)"

Lots. Usually more energetic stuff, though, as it keeps me from falling asleep at work. :V
I've recently been listening to a worryingly large amount of Gorillaz, as some singles of theirs came out.
I also listen to a large amount of older classics, including David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and some Grateful Dead, which I seemed to have gotten from my dad.
And while I don't listen to music like it normally, I've been enjoying 3WW by alt-J.
Oh, and Queens of the Stone Age. As well as Them Crooked Vultures, and EoDM. Pretty much anything that has Josh Homme leading.

Also, to keep this post relevant, I have a favorite Imagine Dragons song.

A lot of people say that, but I've met very few who actually stand by it.
More often than not it means "I like a few genres, but there's big list of exceptions, and I'm not a big fan of genres I haven't heard before".
Not criticizing you, mind you. I don't know if that applies to you or not, and even if it does, nothing wrong with only liking certain types of music. I just... Bah, I wish people in general wouldn't say that when they don't mean it.

Except in most cases I find that there are exceptions even from the stuff they've heard.
I can't tell you the number of times I've heard this:
"I like all genres of music."
"Cool. What about hip-hop / country / metal?"
"No, I don't like those."
I seriously don't expect people to have heard every type of music. I've been trying to hear every type of music I can, and it is genuinely difficult. There are a lot, and some of them are dang near impossible to find.

You got that right. Folk music from various countries/cultures that isn't a modern composition can be hard to track down sometimes, especially if the country/culture in question doesn't record their music in any way.

I managed to find a couple of compilations of traditional Australian Aboriginal music, which was the most difficult thus far.
Then there are some types of music that have been nearly lost to time. Aizam Urtiin Duu is one that comes to mind for this, because the style was almost lost due to some sort of legislation on the length of songs at some point in Mongolia? Not entirely clear on the details, but that particular style basically survives as only one album (though the shorter subgenres are reasonably plentiful still).

Nah man, no worries. I get it. Not everyone listens to as many genres as they say/think they do. That being said, of course there are genres I listen to more than others. For example, I've got more rock on my spotify playlist than jazz. My favorite genres are filth & big band/swing, but oddly enough I don't listen to them very often.

I've been thinking of branching out and giving new music genres a try, but it's a tough thing to do if it's something completely unfamiliar. Can't judge a whole genre based on just a few songs, and regardless of the genre, it's hard to find the gems from among all the trash.
And just about all music recommendations sites only give recommendations from genres that you already listen to.. so those are no good for discovering completely new music.

or recommends what is popular. after a while, when it gets to the point of being directed back to stuff you've already heard before, such places become increasingly useless. that happens with a lot of things, not just music.

Music forums are really good when it comes to discovering stuff. Music Banter, Sputnikmusic, and Rate Your Music are all pretty ace.
The /mu/ section on 4chan is also really good for discussions and discoveries. Over the years there have been tons of genre-specific charts made by /mu/ guys that are real useful when it comes to trying to get into certain genres.

One thing I would add to this, is that while the classic, universally-recognized albums are usually occupying such status for very good reasons, they do tend to become fairly recurrent in such cordons after awhile when asking for anything offhandedly as a broad recommendation. So a really helpful technique to have whenever hearing something that tickles your fancy is to dive as furthest back into a given discography as you can to better contextualize what the rest of the band's output would later be, and especially those aforementioned 'classics' which always sound much better when getting a better grasp of where they came from.
This, after all, has always been the best advice I've ever had

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Bilocyte
Radiant Historia - Radiant Historia
The Wonderful 101 - Tables Turn

Of course, this is limited to whatever music I have and can correctly identify. I don't know what genre this one belongs to.

oo that dragonball game (dragonball super too) has some real nice music.
seriously? fuck you, youtube. i am NOT rebooting my laptop every time your damned video player throws a fit and stops working. i'll just download what i want to see instead of streaming it and use the comments of the video in question separately. honestly, fix. your. shit. ಠ_ಠ
ANYway...back on topic... yeah, not sure what genre that would be.
hmmm... don't remember the title but there was this one battle theme i really liked and they used the "cha-la, head cha-la" theme in this game too? o.O where? i never heard it while playing.
nice opening theme for the Tournament of Power saga they also started using a new ending theme too which sounds nice. though, for now i'm still wondering if theres a video with the music used in the last portion of the Buu vs Basil fight. (if you know that one, please link. :))
also, that intermission sequence for this saga sounds like a near direct rip from one of the later mega man x titles. either 5 or 6 i think...maybe 7?
omg...fucking VLC media player broke AGAIN! though that doesn't explain why youtubes video player also broke since the 2 are not related at all. think i was gonna say something else but that'll have to wait till after i reboot this stupid piece of garbage laptop.
edit: ok, back and...this version of "cha-la, head cha-la" is... :/ why is it so slow? no, i've heard better versions.
*searches youtube for dragon ball super music* ... *results show lots of AMV videos*
what? that has nothing to do with what i'm looking for and has the potential of being very cringy. i am looking for music from the show, not videos with random music added by fans. 2 completely different things, youtube.

i was just watching an episode of Ducktales at this site and got to wondering. what other old cartoons have good theme songs (the title song in this case)? cause you certainly don't hear that kind of music much nowadays.
that and i was also thinking that maybe i could look towards older things to expand my music collection with. i already have lots of anime, video game, and other random stuff from various artists & albums so why not go through some old cartoons and see what comes up? i'm open to suggestions on what to check out. :) partly since theres not that many cartoons i remember from the 90's or earlier anymore. Pinky and the Brain. Still good. Used to be one of my favorite shows, should rewatch it someday.
found this top 25 childrens tv intros list while checking those out. good list of intro themes. note sure i like the narration and stuff in some of them but the music is usually pretty good.
well, ok, SOME are good. some i've heard of but never seen before (like road warriors and mask) but then theres some that just strike me as strange like...The Poddington Peas? o_O what in the world...?
8:47 wait, THAT'S where that character is from? think i've seen jim sterling use him in a video before but never knew who he was or where he came from.
boy, thundercats had a good sized intro. that ones longer than most.
12:16 o_O ok...
galaxy rangers...well, a better intro than it might seem at first. ah, theres a good show i've seen before, Centurions. well, i think i now have several series i haven't seen before to check out and maybe rewatch some other ones.
edit: undertale stuff...
gah, it's so CUUUTE! where is that clip from and is it part of a larger music video? PLEASE TELL ME THERE'S MORE!
found the 3:37 clips full version Drop Pop Candy Undertale MAP (completed)

Goku vs Toppo Theme for those who enjoyed listening to this during that fight. not 100% sure but i think this was also used during the last portion of the Buu vs Basil fight too.
they've got a lot of nice themes and BGMs in Super. :) even the current intermission scene (where commercials go) which sounds like something straight out of a mega man x game.

Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!! - Party In the Clouds
Very lively, 190 BPM. Not sure about the genre... Electro-Rock? Nintendocore?

bah! now i have to wait for someone to recreate the Goku vs No. 17 theme from episode 86. >.<
turns out they never actually met back in the DBZ Cell Saga. guess my memory was a bit fuzzy on that one. then again, that was like 10-20+ years ago when that saga happened.
and Super Buu is back! only not evil.
not only that but if any of you have seen DBGT then you know who the kid Dende speaks of in this episode. :) seems DBGT wasn't entirely non-canon.
o_O same for some of the games which have had occasional small mentions (right, budokai and tenkaichi?).
