Topic: Music?

Posted under Off Topic

bout to go to bed but i was deciding on what music to listen to and remembered this from when i played RPG maker games more often. i first heard of the artist from the game Alter A.I.L.A.. good game iirc with multiple story paths that branch based on your choices at key points. don't think i ever finished all the paths (do all...3? paths and i think a 4th final path begins leading to the true final boss battle.)

DJ ASK, that's not all of their work and i think only track from this playlist used in the game is Digital Confession. from what little digging i've done just now, ASK looks to be one of those obscure japanese artists (there's a DJ ASK youtube channel but none of the guys tracks are among the videos so i have my doubts on whether or not that's the actual DJ ASK though i could be wrong.)

another good one (band this time, i think) is M.O.V.E.) and they've done some of the opening themes for the anime, Initial D.

oh wow, looks like M.O.V.E. even did the ending credits theme for dynasty warriors 2 so they've done anime themes, video game themes, and other stuff too.

edit: i found DJ ASK'S website! uh, i'm using google translate so let me know if the link doesn't work and i'll get it without the translation.

DJ ASK's site, track list

no download links but there is the track list there. :)

edit: Tales of Berseria Intro

VERY well animated (it's amazing the quality they can get with animation, 2D i mean, these days.) with some great music that lines up perfectly with the animation.

I like almost everykind of music. From classic 'till what you like.

Since I'm on this thread again

Persona 4 and Persona 5 have awesome soundtracks.

So does basically every Sonic game ever.

Classical arrangement of a rock song. Not bad.

the actual fight is a little different too as well as Gilgamesh's attitude and behavior. gone is the multi-armed kooky kabuki, now it's a far more serious warrior testing the worthiness of the king's protectors who already lost his left arm to a previous "shield".

it's really quite unusual to see someone like gilgamesh acting so serious instead of how goofy he usually is.

edit: actually, now that i think about it. going by what is said on the wiki this version of Gilgamesh isn't the dimension hopping sword collector known throughout the rest of the franchise. he's similar in how he collects swords and fights on a bridge but that's largely where the similarities end.

apparently, this gilgamesh served as the founder king's shield in XV (at least 2000 years before the games events). so this isn't the more commonly known warrior called gilgamesh.

o.O i wonder if there are any other worlds with versions of him like this. cause i've only ever seen the multi-arm kabuki version in the vast majority of final fantasy worlds. and in XIII-2 he was testing out more modern weapons like guns in the coliseum. only to change his mind and go back to melee weapons when he found the new toys weren't particularly to his liking. which is understandable.

you spend all that time focusing on only one or two weapon types and it'd probably be hard to change things up much beyond trying them out as a curiosity or something.

edit2: o.O hmmm... you know, i never really thought about it that much but...do i really need both the castlevania 64 OST AND the castlevania legacy of darkness OST? i mean, they're both N64 games and iirc legacy of darkness is basically built on top of the pre-existing castlevania 64 game. it's literally just extra content.

While I like to listen to what I find interesting regardless of genre, I was raised on the rock spectrum. I grew up listening to classic rock radio where I was exposed to The Beatles, Queen, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, AC/DC, and The Rolling Stones just to name a few. Later, I dug deeper into other genres in that spectrum like prog (Pink Floyd, Genesis, Rush, Yes, King Crimson) and metal (Slayer, Tool, Metallica, Testament, Sepultura).

As of late, I've been looking into more modern (or semi-modern) groups that I never gave much respect for previously like Radiohead, Tame Impala, Gorillaz, Deftones, and System of a Down. I also let go of my prejudice of electronic music and I've been diggin' Daft Punk, Boards of Canada, Massive Attack, Brian Eno, Air, and M83.

Queen, AC/DC, and David Bowie are (or were in his case. :/ ) quite good. :)

i still have that 30 CD, 40th anniversary compilation of Queen albums i downloaded a couple years ago. at 4.57GB that is a TON of music for one band to have made. and that's just their music from 1973-1995.

only ever heard Daft Punk out of those. another good band.

you might find 2Cellos song, Thunderstruck interesting. from the description:

"2CELLOS Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser playing their arrangement of Thunderstruck by AC/DC BaRock style!"

it's very surprising to see and hear all the things they can do with just those 2 Cellos. those guys do some pretty good music with just those 2 instruments. :) and none of it is electric. they even tap the sides of the cellos for the drum sounds.

oops, looks like i was mistaken about the electric part. 2CELLOS - Highway To Hell feat. Steve Vai [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

and as always, the comments are flooded with idiots too busy whining about the bow strings instead of enjoying the music. but i guess that shows where their priorities are, huh? they don't flock to those videos for the music, only to whine and hate.

Those electro groups you mentioned are great. Ever heard of Christoph de Babalon? He is this one producer from Germany and his music can range from dark ambient to industrial to breakcore

Sonic Forces OST - Park Avenue (Custom Character)

boy, what did eggman do in this game? start a world war or something? lol well, whatever the case it looks like we'll be getting a good soundtrack with sonic forces.

lyrics:

Here come the enemy, strike them down
We can't let evil win, take 'em out
This is justice, this is what's right
Here come the enemy, mess 'em up
And bring them to the knees, do your stuff
Time for justice, time to go fight.

Music

Destiny, lies before you
I believe, we have the power
Can you see, your horizon
Victory's for the taking
-----

think i got those right. :)

if that's the first stage and you're just thrown into battle then this is a good starting song. real good...and fitting.

edit: changed the lyrics to some from the comments (looks more accurate to me).

edit: after hearing it several times it's safe to say that they need a different female singer for this song. as the lyrics in her part actually sound more like this.

she says "Destiny" fine but after that it sounds like this:

(it? it's barely audible) lie(the s is almost completely silent and can just BARELY be heard) before you

I-gilee...we have the power

can you see... your corrander?

victories...far the taking
-----------

they need to change this before release... cause that's not good singing at all.

King Arthur's soundtrack (2017) was pretty decent. It helped the movie out a lot. The full, official soundtrack can heard on YouTube here.

I would peg most of the tracks as folk "ethnic" European with lots of traditional percussion instruments, but there's also some orchestral ambience pieces. Definitely comparable to some of The Witcher 3's soundtrack. I found the breathing tracks (literally, breathing as an instrument) shocking and refreshing like the snap of cold air in the morning (example ).

HYACINTHO RESILIENCE REMAKE

was looking around for some megaman remixes and stuff earlier and found this musician and album. tbh i didn't care much for their version of MMX5's intro >.> (the violin sounded a bit screechy to me but maybe i'm just not used to that pitch of sound and after hearing it again, the original for the game was also rather screechy sounding so i dunno what's up with that.) but this is a pretty good arrange album overall.

rather loud sounding but good.

edit: *turns on MP# Player* O_O ah...MUCH better!

to think this dinky little device can have such superior audio output to that big ol' laptop. lol

I listen to these guys all the fucking time. Been my current favourite band for a long time. Not a Satanist (though I think it's hella dope) but I still adore their worship songs and shit

you know, it's weird but i was actually reading about satanists the other day and it turns out they're actually...atheists. if i'm not entirely mistaken, the demonic stuff (and stereotypical themes of how they look and all that) is mainly just to bother theists and stuff.

they don't do ritual sacrifice and they strongly oppose things like pedophilia... tbh, reading about that...that was completely different from what most would assume of them. in fact, a surprising amount of what i know and assume about religion as an atheist actually lines up with what satanists believe rather closely. o_O and no, they're not actually evil or anything like that. heck, i doubt they really even believe in things such as good & evil.

guess it goes to show that not everything religion opposes and demonizes like that is all that bad. though i guess that shouldn't be quite so surprising.

Most are Le Vaney's rather than Traditionalists. They're agnostics/atheists that develop in an Abrahamic culture, and propose (if true) Satan would be the tragic protagonist. It's just for fun for most of them.

Plus, it's a free excuse to feel edgy. If an omnipotent demiurge exists, it can do no wrong as it defines right and wrong, So even if the proposed God is evil in the eyes of man, opposition would be evil in a cosmic sense. So they can wear all black and act edgy and shit without having to neuter themselves and become emos

yep, pretty much like you said. when i was reading the FAQ at http://www.churchofsatan.com/ i think it said somewhere that they don't even believe satan is real. so yeah, it's pretty much all just an act to bother theists.

emos...emos are annoying and depressing to be around for very long. well, some are.

now i can't help but wonder...where does this put wiccas? atheist, pagan, or atheist/pagan? tbh though, i don't really know all that much about wiccan beliefs.

i...just remembered something out of nowhere. 100% completely random memory!

i have in my music collection a very good flash game ost for a game called The Adventures of Dear Explorer. i don't even remember when i last saw the game, let alone played it but the soundtrack is quite good.

The Adventures of Dear Explorer soundtrack

i downloaded that 6 years ago? huh, well no wonder i don't remember when i last played the game if it's been that long. and it's one of those name your price albums.

kinda surprised that page is still there tbh. o_O

"here's the game":www.kongregate.com/games/vortixgames/the-adventures-of-dear-explorer if anyone wants to try it out.

here's another good track from an old flash game called Symphonic Tower Defense. it was a mix of TD and rythm based gameplay. pretty fun too as the creeps (or notes in this case) would appear according to the music for the stage following the speed and rythm of the audio.

True Face (additional mix) by Real Faction, it's track 5 of that album.

nice album :)

well, i think i know my favorite track for this album...and a song for anyone who asks for "furry" music. it's not about furries specifically but i figured it's good enough.

Soft Fuzzy Man

Lyrics

Cold and windy
Dark and stormy
Let me float your way
Please don't ignore me
What you girls really need's a soft, fuzzy man
(An ambient man)
A trick of the light to love you tonight
You don't understand, there's nothing quite like a soft, fuzzy man

Can't you see me?
Why can't you see me?
I'm all around, all cold and dreamy
What you girls really need's a soft, fuzzy man
(A wisp of smoke man)
To waft over you and cloud up your view
So show me your hands and wave them right through a soft, fuzzy man

Although I have no arms to hold you in a human passion burns within me
I need to feel like I exist
So please baby please baby step into the mist

Don't be nervous
No, don't be nervous
I'm not like other guys who have a surface
What you girls really need's a soft, fuzzy man
(An atmospheric man)
A shimmering puff of indistinct love
What's better than the vague embrace of a soft, fuzzy man?

Who seeps through your thoughts
Who makes you see spots
Who blows through the air
Who plays with your hair
I know it sounds crazy, but once you go hazy, you'll understand
I'm your soft, fuzzy man

Question: Can a song still be considered classical if it contains a rock drum beat?

Etrian Odyssey 5 - Dungeon 1 (Rock beat starts at 0:22)
Rock drum beat

Also, around the 00:19 second mark, there's a sound played alongside the cymbals that I can only describe as a metallic... "glittering" sound. Any idea what instrument that is? I can find another song (or 50) with that same sound in it if you need a clearer example of it.

Does anyone use SoulseekQt? Anyone heard of it? Seems to be the current gen Napster/Kazaa/Bearshare/Limewire, mostly for music. It's had the few songs I've searched for so far, and finding what I'm looking for this way is a lot easier than hunting through filtered Google searches and obscure websites or settling for Youtube-quality rips.

Semi-closed community. You only need to download and configure the client to get going, but it seems you can be banned for leeching (or at least not sharing some music of your own). I had to set a username (but no password?) and open the client's listening port on my router.

At this point, I started looking for songs that I have that weren't on Youtube to compare against Soulseek's results... and I ended up checking all my songs for obscurity.

my obscure songs

That took me back.

I would classify that song as jazz of some kind. Sounds like piano, drum kit, bass guitar, flute, which are quite jazzy, as well as violin, xylophone, and choir (?), which are serviceable in jazz.

I wouldn't say that a classical piece can't use a regular drum beat, but I would expect more variety from a less constrained approach than used in current music. Searching Youtube for "classical drumming" shows exactly that.

Bar chimes, apparently. The SFX for it is called magic wand.

Doesn't jazz put emphasis on every 2nd and 4th beat? This one's 1st and heavy 3rd. Other than the drum beat, this sounds like classical to me.

Thanks. The sound is often used with magic so the SFX name makes sense.

I think there's also a wooden version.

Haven't listened to a whole lot of new music lately. Been too busy, busy.

Though I recently stumbled on Colony 5, which seems like my kind of music.

Other than that, I got back into coding lately1, and have been listening to even more Nerdcore than usual. MC Frontalot - Freedom Feud, things like that.

1. Learned the basics of dozen or so programming languages within the past months, including Python, Rust, Nim, C#, Go, etc. Finally settled on Ruby for my project.[/sup]

I'm not sure if I've heard any new music. It's been so long since I've listened to a radio or looked at a music chart that I can't name a single song that came out last year.

Listen to mostly soundtracks from games and movies, along with particular pieces that i like from various genres.

Oh, this got bumped. Someone had to do it.

Avatar - A Statue of the King

Really shreds. I heard this at noon on the radio and liked it after a minute. Too hard for noon. I've never heard it on the radio again. Caused me to step back through their discography for similar stuff. Haven't found any yet.

Avatar - For the Swarm

Kind of similar. But System did System better lol...

Now this...

Greta Van Fleet - Safari Song

I mistakenly thought this was "old music" because they had that sound. I would much rather listen to new stuff than the classics, but I was still compelled to look this up after about 40 passive listens. No... they're like 21, and this was their second song, maybe. Sounds like Led Zeppelin. I'm excited for them.

You know what you almost never hear? Sad electric guitar music. Not electric guitar music with sad lyrics, but music where the electric guitar is played in a depressing tone. Very common with violin, piano, accordion, etc. but not electric guitar.

Deep Purple - Contact Lost is the only song I know of that does this. I'm sure there are others.

One more thread about music !!! I love these ones

=).

However, regarding the original question (generes) I will say that I don't have really preferences... or rather said, it has been changing with time. I think that almost every musical tradition has good songs and music, if you may be more receptive to them, if the time comes.

But you will never know it, if you don't vary the menu, so to speak.

It's a lot of metal and modern rock for me, and some electronic and a little rap. Some of my fav bands are Linkin Park, Taproot, Metallica, Deftones, Danzig, and Pantera.
There are a lot more albums that i listen to that the bands aren't my fav. Some of my favourite albums would be:
Linkin Park- Meteora, Hybrid Throry and A Thousand Suns
Papa Roach - Infest
Velvet Revolver - Contraband
Live - Awake (yes ik its a greatest hits album bif it has all my fav songs)
Taproot - Gift, Welcome, and Blue Sky Research
Danzig - How The Gods Kill, Satans Child
Metallica - Death Magnetic, ...And Justice For All
Limp Bizkit (yes limp bizkit dont judge me) - Significant Other
Nickelback (yeah i see im asking to get cancelled but they didnt always suck) - The State
Static-X - Wisconsin Death Trip
Cold - Cold
Rage Against The Machine - The Battle of Los Angeles
Audioslave - Audioslave
Pearl Jam - Vs.
and i could do many more but thats everything off the top of my head

Surf Rock has ruled my life for a very long time. Everyone from Dick Dale to the Shantays to the Ziggens; in fact it was the Ziggens who got me into Surf in the first place.

Good place to start for Surf is 'going richter', 'surfin buena park', and 'stranded on clicker island' by the Ziggens; 'pipeline' by the Shantays (and pretty much every other surf band in the 60's); and 'nitro' by Dick Dale.

I dunno, its just the strumming and vastness of the sound.
