I usually listen to instrumental music, especially when I'm working, it can be "background music", video game music, music from animation, stuff like that, I don't mind, it just helps me get focused.

hm, you may like to check out this then. over 1k of video game music. OCRemix is pretty good too and as i pointed out in my previous post, they recently (on halloween) released a trilogy of albums based on 4different castlevania games. plenty more where that came from too.

as for anime (guessing you meant anime and/or cartoons when you said animation), i haven't visited the site in a while now but iirc Gendou has a nice selection

Oh, thank you very much! I was not aware of the one on e621, but I have used OCRemix and Gendou before (though I admit I haven't used Gendou in about three years). OCRemix is great though, you can find some really incredible gems on there.

yeah, ocremix has pretty much always been my favorite site for remixes though i've have found some good video game music and remixes elsewhere as well. you just have to dig around and maybe google some sometimes.

heck, i just remembered i have a few VERY rare castlevania music albums i downloaded from some old site that's pretty much dead now. i'd link but the download links have probably died by now.

i wonder...50gb...well, i could fit most of my music folder on my MEGA drive. maybe all of it if i cut out all the zipped files and any videos i happen to have in there. 26.9GB out of 60.1GB is video game music alone. guess i can use that site as my music folder backup. not like i'm using it for anything else aside from stashing that big pile of M.Sherman pics. >.> egging, if you or anyone else would like a link to such a collection PM me here and...be patient as i'd be uploading mainly at night and 10,661 files is a LOT to upload.

Woah woah woah hold up. Are you telling me you skipped the original Final Fantasy Tactics?

In my opinion, the original Final Fantasy Tactics was the best. Not just of the Tactics series, but of the entire Final Fantasy series as a whole.

I mean, I guess you never said you weren't going to get to it eventually. Just... somehow everyone's played the Gameboy versions, and they are far inferior, which is majorly disappointing.

I guess I should keep the music thread going too though.

I was looking for some song made entirely out of percussion. This was the closet I found:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=381IrDcy1S8

I'm sure there are others but I can't find them.

Not my fault. I had a PS1 at the time, but Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was my very first FF game.

Good thing I have the PSP remake!

just finished my first playthrough of Undertale and it's quite a good rpg. i kinda regret doing the "genocide" route though. especially after going through the sad backstory before meeting the king. :(

anywho, i was about to look for the soundtrack to download when, shocker, i found that the guy who did the music left 24 tracks out of the OST claiming them to be secret tracks. jerk, they aren't secret. you just didn't want to add them to the ost.

sorry, but NO, i tolerate that bs with OSTs of console games but i am not letting that slide with a pc game at all. so...apologies to the dev but hello...torrent. -_- with ALL 101 tracks.

oh and that was a interesting surprise for a final boss. never would've expected that when i started the game back up. o.O that flower is crazy and rather sadistic.

Going through Undertale too. Didn't know about the 'zero deviation allowed' route rules until I'd killed a bunch of early enemies because I thought leveling would still be pretty neccessary to progress including Toriel, unintentionally, cause being a story battle I thought I would just defeat her D: . Which isn't that weird a mindset when you've played a lot of RPGs. =/

So while I'm usually trying to pet and compliment people into pacifism now, getting screwed out of the best ending because of not immediately fully grasping a game's mechanics is.... a bit annoying. Good game so far though (loving these Mother vibes), and of course very decent music too!

Oh, and that Cutting Room Floor you mentioned earlier has been a permanent bookmark of mine for ages. I just love digging through the net to discover early-development versions of games I know, and cut content and stuff. There's something really interesting about seeing a finished product get dissected or shown in an unfinished state, getting to see what could've ended up being different or just could've been at all, yet wasn't.

For similar reasons I have a fondness for glitches, they break what's normally a streamlined experience down and show it for what it is: a bunch of code programmed to do (usually just) one thing smoothly, and it's hilarious to see a program struggle and fall on its face once its own rules collapse in on itself.

I even think it's cool to know the internal workings behind said fuck-ups, hell, I've actually gained some minor 8-bit programming knowledge by extensively watching/reading up on findings by people like TheZZAZZGlitch.
I mean, if you ever want to know how you SHOULDN'T code a game, Gen 1 Pokemon is a treasury. We all know that to some extent, cause who hasn't dabbled with MissingNo, but until I started following him (and places like Glitch City Lab and even Bulbapedia's own section) I didn't realize how wonderfully awful its coding truly is. Even if most of what can actually go wrong happens because of there being zero error handling.

...This post really hasn't been about music, has it?

ever seen any of vinny's videos? true, most are craziness fueled insanity, but sometimes he makes music if unintentionally. it's actually pretty interesting what you can pull off with the corruption programs those guys at the vinesauce site use.

i've messed around with DKC like that some before and it's pretty fun. mostly i would just mess around with the RARE logo and title screen and whatnot. some of the stuff you can cause to happen are:

object (logo, record player, boombox, donkey, and cranky in this case) deformation in countless different ways.
physics getting...weird.
audio deformation anda whole mess of other results.

things i've done would include causing that music when the logo appears to be increasingly high pitch as it plays with the logo stretching down to the corner rather than shrinking down. some of the music notes missing entirely.

OH! and one time i hit a real good spot in the games code and altered the logo's appearance (in particular, the color scheme). made it go from yellow on blue to turquoise on blue to true gold on black which looks great btw.

then this one other time i actually caused the game to no longer be considered a snes game.

kinda music related >.>

#79 first ending i got. that was crazy. kinda odd that i couldn't die though but he DID say he wanted to see me suffer basically and with power over the save/load system he definitely had the power to keep the suffering going.

come to think of it, i think that was the first time i've seen a boss wield such a power in a game or if i have seen such a thing before i don't remember it.

The best part about "Your Best Nightmare" is that it DOES include Flowey's evil laugh. I'm honestly tempted to find his laugh only and make it my alarm or ringtone or something. But for now, Bayonetta's One of a Kind will do.

And the closest that I can think of that compares to that final boss fight with Flowey is when the game "crashes" in Conker's Bad Fur Day.

God, I LOVE Undertale! It's like this generation's Earthbound, which I've sadly not yet played!

though i don't dare use the word "weird" to describe that series lest i incur the irrational wrath of the fanbase of that series. did that once on youtube and well...i'm only going to go so far as saying it was a mistake saying it near the fans. those irritants aside i still think the whole series is thoroughly strange and/or disturbing overall. >.>

can't say i've played earthbound either. unfortunately the thought of the final boss basically being an alien abortion is always...off putting to me. :/

yeah...sorry, gigyas (or however the name is spelled), but you're very existence (let alone origins) disturbs me enough to not want anywhere near you.

i do however like that song you have to sing before he can be hurt. nice melody

Okay, so I didn't really manage to avoid reading those Undertale spoilers after I saw EarthBound pop up in those texts a few times. Sweet. >_<

But seriously guys, if you liked Undertale you have to play that game. It's aged gracefully and is a blast, not the same from a gameplay perspective but it's clear where Toby Fox got his inspiration for good parts of his game's graphical style and humor, even some of the music (and oh god, does EarthBound have a good soundtrack itself). Though Undertale's overworld graphics seem to share the most similarities with Mother 3's, as both don't use the isometric perspective of the first two Mother games.

And I don't know who told you about aborting anyone, but that's a load of crap and basically just comes from a creepypasta that made a ton of try-hard assumptions. If that's all that's keeping you back, do yourself a favor and don't.

In fact, the ties between Mother and Mother 2 / EarthBound were left so ambiguous (some will call it an indirect sequel, some a remake) that there's a possibility Giygas is simply the self-destructed, chaos incarnate form of the original (adult!) antagonist of Mother, whose romanized name coincidentally is Giigu in both games, just translated into the pretty accurate Giegue first and then Giygas because whatever.

tbh, idon't care, i just don't want anywhere near that giygas...thing. it's "concept": alone is disturbing. it's like some kind of "ultimate life form" creature with it's appearance distorted.

i think it's safe to say that humanities idea(s) of an ultimate life form is pretty much always something born of a nightmare (in video games at least) since in games such beings are pretty much exclusively major villains, evil, a monster, or disturbing in appearance or some combination of the 4.

i just find that whole mother/earthbound series to be too freaky/weird to mess with is all.

A lot of people believe that Mewtwo somewhat resembles Giygas.

Makes sense since some of the people behind Earthbound helped develop the original Pokémon games.

An Cafe

Magnya Carta

Shikisai Moment

just something i had collecting dust in my music folder.

edit: as for undertale, my fave tracks would probably be

Death by Glamour

Asgore's theme

AND Sans theme MEGALOVANIA, nice boss theme. heh, kinda scary seeing him near the end of my neutral run after i...well, sorry, papyrus. still, with a theme like this, i hope he puts up a good fight. (assuming he can be fought that is)

edit2: so...what's better than Sans theme? hehehe... how about 3 different versions layered together to make a surprisingly good combination?

MEGALOVANIA - All Versions Layered (Earthbound, Homestuck, Undertale) hows that for a theme?

My tastes are rather diverse, mostly just sticking with metal and its full extents. I enjoy practically every metal genre but seem to prefer these:
Technical Death Metal
Progressive Thrash Metal
Progressive Metal
Deathcore

SOME of my favorite artists have to be:
The Contortionist
Porcupine Tree
Car Bomb
Dir en grey
The Red Chord
Hellwitch
Periphery
Coroner
Decapitated
Mithras
Job For a Cowboy
Korn
Mnemic
Death
7 H Target
Cryptopsy
Lorna Shore
Thy Art is Murder
Infant Annihilator
Rings of Saturn

I also like Hip-hop, Vaporwave, Lounge, and a little IDM. I guess it would be easier to list my favorites in other genres all in one section:
Maitro
2814
Dan Mason ダン·メイソン
Frank Ocean
Tyler, The Creator
A Tribe Called Quest
Wu-Tang Clan
Autechre
The Pharcyde

I have a lastfm aswell as a rateyourmusic, perhaps if you are interested, just message me. I dont really care too much about musical taste, we all have different minds and different ears. I belive we should let people listen to what they please.

My spotify playlist is an absolute shitshow just because I'll listen to almost anything.

Monstercat is a label for electronic artists which I've listened to for about 4 years and definitely helped shape my taste in electronic music.

Vitamin String Quartet does covers of a wide variety of genres like soundtracks, pop, rock, etc.

And of course the UNDERTALE soundtrack:

@treos mentioned two of my favourites MEGOLOVANIA and ASGORE

Undertale is also a favourite.

And here's a few more:

His Theme

Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans

Hopes and Dreams

Heartache

Bonetrousle

It's likely that I like the music just because it connects me to how I felt when I heard them in the game in the situations they were played in. Which is really just more reson for you to play the game if you haven't.

Monstercat definitely has some nice releases.

Snavs - Time is the most recent one I found that I rather liked.

Unrelated to all that, I heard... And I don't really want to link it, but I heard ISIS's "national anthem" of sorts, and it bothers me greatly because it actually sounds nice, but I can't enjoy it because of it's status as their song, given their behavior.

Still, I should link, just so you know what I'm talking about. Here it is.

To that end, I tried to find a Nasheed that I could listen to without such assocations. Found this:

Shaam - Kulama Nadayt Yahu

I like it.

I used to feel the same way about the grandiosity the old soviet anthem still imparts, like there's a kind of cognitive dissonance in hearing triumphal swells from the soundtrack to land grabs and mass graves; but later thought that if it could get people to lionize the deploration performed under its banner then wouldn't that really just be a testament to music's pervasive effect on the consciousness after all...

Hmm...I have a wide variety when it comes to music, it just needs to be catchy, have rhythm, meaning, and sometimes a good vocalists. For an example: I would listen to some way would say cheap music, such as pop: Adele, The Fray, Cold Play, One Republic, Mariah Carey, and most other singers people don't like. Then, I would listen to OST from games from Outlast, Zelda, Dark Souls, Alien Isolation, Metroid, Halo, Grand theft auto, final fantasy, and etc. Next, I'd listen to music done by Mozart or listen to opera singers like Joan. And if I need drastic music, I'd listen to rock music like from nirvana, five finger death punch, evanescence, nickelback, and etc.

Most of the time though I would listen to PMJB, just because I love the natural sound of musical instruments being used.

I'm entirely with you there when it comes to classical and video game music. Both are leagues better than what's regurgitated on the radio and/or what's considered "mainstream".

Ugh...tell me about, music these days sound so cheap. The lyrics are cheap, the singers are cheap, the beats are cheap, and well...all of it is cheap. I don't understand how mainstream music can get so popular by being so cheap! >:(

Like Justin Beiber's "Where are you now when I need you?" Like wtf? That is one of the weakest songs in the world...my god, I was really questioning the sanity of the human race...

That song is torturing, I swear.

Classical and video game music are the most part relaxing, cause it's made out of natural instruments (most of them are) and on some occasions contain great vocalists. I can't stand listening to a song where the artist sings like they're reading a scripted verse...plus, classical and most video game music tends to achieve what most songs fail to do now these days, and it's to make the audience feel the emotion and setting it creates. I know sound high when I say that, but it's true! I just don't feel it with most music these days. Though, that's not to say all of them are bad. Like I said, I have a wide variety when it comes to music. I can listen to country, dubstep, heavy metal, or sometimes even rap...I just need that gist/movement and creativity. Not something to bash my ear with! So far...the music genre that bugs me the most is K-pop...ugh~ makes me cringe.

I already made a (slightly outdated) list of music that I own and listen to. Mostly video game music, but plenty of known bands such as Linkin Park, Coldplay, System of a Down, etc.

I'm actually going through all of the Monster Hunter music I have. These are my favorites from Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

The Lunar Abyss
Moonquake ~ Ceadeus
To One with Life
Bonus Track [Aka Alatreon Theme]

And, just because I can.

You just sent goosebumps chilling down my spine, I love battle music! They get your heart pumping and brain active. To One with Life is really relaxing, it's very beautiful. Probably will listen to it often.

I have my own dramatic playlist, most of them of course are OSTs from games.

Ripley's theme
Raging Blood
Through the Fog
Burning Leaf
Magmoor caverns

Those to say the least, are my favorites of favorites.

Super Cartography Bros. OCRemix's 55th album. this time focusing on the over world and world map themes of various mario games.

haven't really checked it out yet (i'll download it later) but hey, it's OCRemix. they hardly ever produce a dud.

oh yeah...*sigh* ...well, i did beat genocide route as my 3rd playthrough of undertale and tbh, that was nothing short of cruel. i almost didn't want to start over after seeing what happens to flowey in that ending.

towards the end, that game gets quite sad in all 3 paths. asgore hanging his head in sham/regret at what he had done. asriel...poor POOR child... :( and then there was his adopted brother. i think we all know how THAT went. >:( as if the they (the monsters) hadn't suffered enough as it is. poor flowey...

overall though, awesome game. heh, just goes to show, i guess, you really don't need flawless graphics to make something truly wonderful.

Here, have seven random songs I like.

Sorry if this has been done before. I sort of looked but didn't see anything, and I thought it might be fun to share music a bit.

I listen exclusively to music from Nintendo and SEGA games.

and by total chance actually, I discovered the Wrecking Crew, the group of session players who played on that and just about every single west coast recording of the 60's (no exaggeration) put out some badass garage/fuzz records to cash in on the growing psychedelic phenomenon, which were sold in budget bins and grocery stores to exploit those people who didn't actually know the name of who was singing that hit they heard on the radio

it's all very shady and underhanded but makes for some great musical ephemera some half century later haha

Death

So apparently Scream Bloody Gore is a meme now... no one draws skeleton boners like Ed Repka.

You ever check out their really early years? I actually have a lot of memories replaying Majora’s Mask with the volume down listening to various demos so now a lot of primitive black/death gives me Zelda flashbacks....I still can’t listen to Bathory without thinking of skullfish swimming around Great Bay

Anyone ever heard of Arcana?

yunno I’ve seen that name more than a few times poking around Cold Meat Industry but for some reason never got around to checking them out.....weird because I would’ve known them by now if I had gotten a compilation from 1995 I’d been eyeing for awhile called ...And Even Wolves Hid Their Teeth And Tongue Wherever Shelter Was Given

And THAT was only because somebody else on there got my attention from a cover they did of the Leather Nun classic Slow Death, which was like the 6th industrial record ever released

but yeah I didn’t end up getting it –– listening now Repentance is really good though....reminds me a lot of Mortiis without all the troll makeup

[I wonder what exactly the furry gradient is for goblins trolls elves and the like...]

Ah yeah that game was the shit back when I was able to play it. I have listened to their early stuff and I can say its not for me at all. I love everything from Human onward. Though Leprosy was pretty damn good! Bathory is amazing though. Under The Sign of The Black Mark is one of my favorite black metal releases ever!

as someone else mentioned, I listen to monstercat too! pretty much the only EDM I like. I also like Pendulum (knife party aren't as good), and Nine Inch Nails are one of my favourites too.
they are probably my three favourite bands/artists. I could list more but I would be here a while, my phone has about 3,000 tracks!

Neither am I. And I may offend people by saying this, but I've only heard his name as a joke in an episode of Top Shot.

In order of favorites:

1. Lapfox Trax/Halley Labs (been a fan for years)
2. clipping.
3. Five Star Hotel

Most of it is a bit of all sorts, mostly electronic music.
There's some really loud stuff in the bottom two, but that's the kind of thing I just find fascinating about it, because it has barely been done before.

I generally do not enjoy anything that appears on the big radio stations and definitely not anything of the current world famous artists. Talent and fame are not necessarily linked; a LOT of awesome (music) artists are left in the dust while a lot less talented artists dominate the world of showbizz.

pfft, i think that may be obvious given the choice of profile pic. :P same here though. renard's music has certainly changed a lot over the years, huh? so many genres, aliases...think i first got into hisstuff back in 2006.

anywho, i've found something rather interesting. not sure what it's really called (if anything) but it seems this...layering of multiple versions of the same song might have rather nice end results sometimes.

Megalovania:

3 tracks: earthbound, homestuck, undertale
13 tracks

Bonetrousle:

20 tracks

well, it can work rather nicely (the 2 megalovania ones sound ok), but i think 20 is pushing the layering thing a bit far as it gets too hard to differentiate the various tracks used and winds up just sounding like noise rather than a mix of different versions of the song in question. still, as is the case with megalovania, it's not bad so long as it's not taken too far.

edit: come to think of it. i think i still have an album or 2 from way back when the record label was vulpvibe, back before lapfox trax.

He actually released everything of his VulpVIBE label for free on the Mediafire of his website.

was just looking through the ocremix forums (since there hasn't been any new official albums yet) and came across a thread about mega man x music and saw this song mentioned.

Earthbound - The Rippingtons, it does sound like it might go nicely in a mega man game.

Hey, Clawdragons.

You seek to speak to my inner nerd, I see.

Unrelated to that!

So apparently there's a genre of music called Trot. There's a debate about whether it has Japanese or Korean origins, but it's somewhat popular in Korea. A type of K-Pop.

There is a boy band called Big Bang. It isn't really a Trot band, but one of the members... Not the most popular member, actually... Daesung, has done a bit solo in the Trot genre.

And despite being a dolled up young kid in a boy band, I genuinely think this guy has talent.

Maybe you all disagree, but I was impressed.

heres another band i found earlier on the ocremix forum.

Symphony X - Dressed to kill

they sound pretty good. they haven't done a new album in several years though. they're last album, Iconoclast came out in 2011.

Symphony X are awesome. :)

PS. Their newest album came out last year. It's called Underworld.

oh? cool, didn't see that on they're site though i didn't really browse it too much.

oh yeah, does Dressed to kill sound familiar?

compare it to X vs Zero - megaman x 5 in particular, the intro section of the song.

If you want to give them a try I'd say their best albums are "Paradise Lost" and "The Divine Wings Of Tragedy". There's some masterful work on those. :)

bit different from that other album, The Damnation Game.

Every album they release has it's own theme. It's an approach I like as it keeps every release fresh and varied from the others while still keeping to their usual style.

lol I wouldn't say anything! Just because you can't afford to buy their albums doesn't mean you're not allowed to be a fan, what's the point of music if the people who like it can't hear it? ;)

I sometimes change a random release of mine to a free download for a while for that very reason.

boy, were you ever right. (finished downloading last night) :) i'd probably put Symphony X up there with dragonforce for how good they are. they're not as loud but they do sound like a bit like a symphony (a metal one) most of the time.

I should check out Eurovision sometime. I've found a couple things from there that were nice, but I've never looked into it specifically.

I'm getting close to 1/3rd of 1000 songs (at 322 I think). Once I hit 333, I'm going to try to post them all. I'm not sure how to go about doing so though. I liked having the ordered link thing, but I don't know if I want to do all of that again. Linking to a google drive or something would be nice, but also would arguably against the site rules (could be seen as encouraging piracy). Also I don't necessarily want to encourage that to begin with. But it would be easier for you to listen and decide what you like and what you don't if there was a playlist of sorts to download...

Ah, I don't know.

I guess maybe I should start by figuring out what my options are. Maybe I'll note an admin later about whether or not I could do a google drive thing without violating the site rules.

Okay I want a genuine opinion here.

This actually sounds to me way better than the original. Is it just me? I've seen a lot of people saying that, but I can't tell if they're just joking or not. But seriously, even though he doesn't have the vocal range for some of the higher points, and he sorta just messes around in the end there, the parts where he is genuinely singing properly more than make up for it.

Is it just me? If it's just me that's fine, but I seriously can't tell.
