circus peanut

Circus peanuts are an American type of marshmallow confectionary. Dating back to the 19th century, it was originally an unwrapped penny candy sold in retail outlets. In the 1940s, cellophane packaging allowed it to be sold year-round, and in the modern day, its leading producers are Brach's, Melster Candies, and Spangler Candy Company. Lucky Charms cereal was invented in 1964 when a General Mills employee chopped up circus peanuts into a bowl of Cheerios.
