Species: baby pokemon (species)
Baby Pokémon, introduced in generation II, are certain types of Pokémon at the lowest stage of Pokémon Evolution. They are identified by their ability to be obtained from breeding, being the lowest form in a chain with at least one evolution, and their inability to be bred (or within the undiscovered egg group) until evolution. Most baby Pokémon can only be obtained by breeding, though not always. Occasionally, they are given as gifts to players, often in the form of an egg. Almost all were introduced in separate generations from their pre-evolutions and/or evolutions, with the exceptions being Togepi, Riolu, and Toxel.
Baby Pokémon can be of any age, since they do not grow or change in appearance until they evolve, which can be delayed indefinitely.
Note that this tag is NOT to be used for Pokémon that just happen to be young, and is specifically for those categorized as "baby Pokémon".
