Character: the one who waits
"Come closer. Fear not, for though you are⠀a l r e a d y⠀d e a d, I still have need of you." - The One Who Waits, while resurrecting the player.
Spoilers
The One Who Waits, formerly known as Narinder is the main antagonist of the indie rogue-like action-adventure game Cult of the Lamb. He is also the final boss of the game.
The One Who Waits is a monstrously large entity with gray skin and three eyes with red sclera and black pupils. He wears a hooded white robe with a red stripe down the center. He is wrapped in chains, and he also has shackles around his arms and two chains that seem attached to him in a similar manner. He is the original wearer of The Red Crown which he loans to The Lamb at the beginning of the game. While worn by The One Who Waits, The Red Crown is proportionately larger. His face is covered by a veil made of black thread. The One Who Waits is also flanked by his two twin disciples Aym and Baal, who wear similar robes and veils.
In his final form, The One Who Waits' face peels open, revealing rows of sharp teeth, and Axolotl like feelers covered in additional eyes. Said eyes have black sclera and red slit-like pupils.
After the Lamb defeats him he shrinks to the same size of the Lamb, though he keeps his head shape and two of his eyes while the third eye is perpetually closed, and wears a grey ragged shirt.
Before the beginning of the game The One Who Waits was known as Narinder. He was the 5th Bishop of The Old Faith, but he was betrayed by the other 4 and sealed away in a limbo between life & death. It is unknown exactly for what reason this was done, but it is known that The One Who Waits mutilated the other 4 Bishops of the Old Faith as he represents the concept of "Do No Evil". In limbo, The One Who Waits was bound by 4 magical chains connected to the life force of each of the Bishops.
At the beginning of the game it is revealed by Kallamar that The Lamb is the last of their kind and that with their death, the prophecy would never be fulfilled. This implies that The One Who Waits prophesized that The Lamb would free him. The One Who Waits intervenes in the execution of The Lamb, bringing them back to life and bestowing them with The Red Crown. In exchange, the Lamb would build a cult in the name of The One Who Waits, gather power, and kill the 4 bishops of the Old Faith to break his chains. Once the 4 Bishops are slain, it is revealed that The One Who Waits is the embodiment of Death, should The Lamb relinquish the Red Crown to their master, The One Who Waits would bring about the end of all life, including that of the Lamb and their loyal cultists. The player can either give up the crown and die or refuse and fight back. The latter option leads to a 4 phase boss fight where in you fight Baal, then Aym, then The One Who Waits himself, and then The One Who Waits' final form. After The One Who Waits is defeated, he is turned into a normal animal, just like the cultists. The Lamb has the option to either kill him or indoctrinate him into your cult.
As a cultist, Narinder has a unique appearance and cannot have his appearance changed during indoctrination like the other followers. In addition to having the Cynical, and Sloth Traits, he uniquely has the Immortal Trait which grants him eternal youth and the inability to die of Old Age. He can of course still die of other causes such as sickness, starvation, overexertion, or being killed/sacrificed/ascended by The Lamb.
Since The One Who Waits is freed before he loses his power and subsequently indoctrinated, he no longer waits for anything. Meaning that for the purposes of tagging, Narinder should be used for his semi-mortal form as a cultist, and The One Who Waits should be for tagging depictions of him as a God of Death.
