fridge
A Fridge, short for Refrigerator is an appliance designed to decrease it's internal thermal energy by transferring it to its external environment. It is most commonly used for food storage to prolong the shelf life of food stuffs and prevent to cultivation of bacteria or fungus.
The modern refrigerator has been around since about the 17th century in the form of insulating ice boxes. As of the 19th century, Fridges use electricity compressors to greatly and artificially increase the internal temperature of the container without needing ice. This also had lead to the development of the Freezer, which can decrease internal temperature to the point of freezing moisture and creating ice to preserve frozen foods like ice cream.
