Hypnos , Sleep Incarnate is a character from the game Hades. He is god of sleep and receptionist within the House of Hades, greeting and signing in recently deceased shades when they emerge from the Pool of Styx. Every time Zagreus dies, returns to the House of Hades, and emerges from the Pool of Styx he provides a hint/advice to the Underworld Prince about the enemy that last killed him. With the exception of Hades who appears on his ledger as [REDACTED].

Hypnos flaunts a lazy expression and sports curly hair, with a pen feather resting on top. His silver hair and golden eyes are the only features he seems to share with his twin brother. His complexion is extremely pale, almost taking on a bluish undertone. Hypnos possesses an average stature for a god; when not hunched or stretching, he stands noticeably taller than Zagreus and has a height similar to that of his brother, boasting a slender physique. He is frequently observed lying face down during sleep.

His attire comprises a long red tunic adorned with golden details, complemented by a long, velvety red coat with white trim that resembles a blanket. His belt is fashioned with poppies, which are often associated with sleep, and features a sleeping skull emblem. He always carries a clipboard and a feather, which he uses to read his reports. Much like his brother, he displays a pair of golden wings on his back, embellished with "four" ornaments on both shoulders. Furthermore, he wears a red eye mask to "feign" that he's awake when he's actually asleep.

Hypnos displays characteristics of narcolepsy and ADHD, including lack of attention, difficulty concentrating, and hyperactivity. According the his family Nyx and Thanatos, he is never lies and is always honest and loyal about his work even if it seems as though he does not take anything seriously or is even mocking others when he talks to others. As opposed to his twin brother Thanatos who takes his work very similarly and is a perfectionist, but also helps Zagreus escape the Underworld between assignments. He has a crush on The Fury Megaera.

As one of the many children of Nyx, Hypnos is an ancient and immensely powerful Chthonic God, more powerful than any Olympian or Titan. At the beginning of the game, Zagreus bribes Hypnos to use his power to put everyone except Zagreus, including Hades hades to sleep so he can sneak into the master chamber and find out where his mother is.

He is a huge fan of the minotaur Asterius to the point that their is even a completely optional side quest to obtain an autograph for him from the bull-man.

Hypnos also appears in Hades 2, where he appears to be in a decades long Coma. He is one of the only members of the House of Hades staff who managed to escape from Chronos before the events of the game along with Skelly and his brother Charon. It is implied through Charon that Hypnos is purposely doing this to somehow weaken Chronos and his army.
