'She can talk! How? Nothing is making sense!'

Vivian felt like she was drowning at this revelation. Pokémon did not talk outside of mimicry. Every child knew that. And yet that thing just had. Vivian was caught off guard by the mental confusion. She had first guessed the monster was wearing Bea's face as gruesome camouflage. But now Vivian had to contend with the horrifying idea that, somehow, the girl's mind had been melded into that chimera. Responding to her look of astonishment, the hybrid gym leader giggled almost charmingly.

"He, he... Bwaaaa."

The monster's smile broke into a toothy gash of hunger, heavy drool spilling over her lips. A long, pink tongue spilled out of the opening; its tips bifurcated into twisting points. Bea's hefty chest swelled as she sucked in air, her arms and legs tensing, preparing to spring.

"Ho-oh's Shit!"

Luckily, that movement was enough to trigger Vivian's instinct for survival, snapping her out of her fearful trance. Her hand shot to her thigh belt, seizing one of the two Pokéballs. Vivian ripped the ball containing her Muk from its notch. She felt confident in her choice; after all, there was no guarantee that the empty ball would even be able to capture something only partially pokémon.

"SKREEEEEE!"

Bea was already on the move. With an inhuman screech, she launched herself from the ceiling like a bullet seed spat out by a Gourgeist. Her wings spread out, flapping too fast for the eye to see and filling the apartment with a dry, hellish buzzing that rattled Vivian's teeth. With the extra burst of speed, Bea hurtled down towards Vivian head-on, tongue trailing from her mouth.

'The bitch is insane! She's going to crash into me!'

Vivian flinched, expecting an imminent impact with the hybrid. But the crash never came; before colliding, Bea flipped over mid-air, seemingly ignoring gravity as her wings adjusted her trajectory. She landed thunderously behind Vivian, her feet skidding briefly before crunching into the floorboards.

Wood shrapnel pinged off Vivian's backside as she snapped her head around to look back over her shoulder. Bea was grinning smugly like an adrenalin junkie as her knees bent from the hard landing. Worse, narrow blue tentacles had begun to stream out of the joints of her red armour. The bundles of pudgy feelers at the end of each tip looked like greedy grasping hands. In a panic, Vivian's thumb moved to press the activation stud on her Muk's pokéball.

However, it was too late. Bea rebounded off the floor, using her stored momentum to spring towards Vivian's unguarded rear, arms and tentacles spread wide to grab her.
