Topic: {{tail_wrap}} usage

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Use Tail_Wrap for #1 because the tail is doing the wrapping.

Use Wrapped_Tail for #2 meaning type because the tail is wrapped up or bound in a wrapping or whatever. I like this better than Bound_Tail for this instance because tail bondage is a thing.

Entwined_Tails is a thing and should remain its own separate tag while also implying Tail_Wrap.

I'd rather if I used bound_tail since tail_wrap and wrapped_tail sound vaguely different.

I don't like bound_tail because it sounds like some sort of bondage thing (bindings applied to the tail). I also don't like using tail_wrap and wrapped_tail because that's just begging for confused tagging. Maybe wrapped_up_tail or something?

Then what would we use for bondage'd tails?

Tail_bondage. It's already got 152 images, and is used by several taggers. (...should probably be implicated to bondage, btw.)

Then it's settled.
bound_tail for the tail ornament.

I wouldn't say it's settled. No one agreed to bound_tail. In fact there is a dissenting opinion regarding it. You're just moving forward with your own personal choice and passing it off as if it was agreed upon. That's not very nice or fair. :/

As Snowy before me, I'm against bound_tail as it implies bondage in the way it is phrased. The real-world items are in fact called tail wraps, so calling them anything else is incorrect. For wrapping someone in a tail, constricting_tail seems far more appropriate.

(Yes, I had a previous "I agree with this." post. I hid it because that was posted with me not giving it much thought and finding it reasonably acceptable as Azaziel wrote it originally. Not so now.)

Genjar already suggested something different for the bondage thing you say:

So I see no problem there, also I agree with ktkr's opinion.

Genjar recommended that for cases of bondage where the tail is bound up, as in the tail is the target of the bondage. bound_tail STILL sounds like it's the tail that is bound in bondage, which renders it a muddy usage.

"tail wrap" is the literal name of the wrappings used on equines and other such animals to bind the base of their tails. Google it if you need proof.

lastly, using the tail to wrap something up being "constricting_tail" leaves no ambiguity with the phrasing, unless you're purposefully being oblique with the usage of constrict vs. the usage of bound.

That sounds like trying to squeeze or strangle someone with a tail. Not at all appropriate for that image set.

The problem with tail_wrap is that it tends to be used for both meanings. I could use the tag for the tail ornament thing and I'll be left with ambiguity and finding another tag for the actual wrapping of the tail around stuff(preferably not a tag with wrap in it).

Or maybe I could use bound_tail for the ornament and I'll use another tag for the other meaning(maybe something other than tail_wrap)
I don't like constricting_tail much.

Or... I dunno, something else.

Oh, and then there's this .

Actually, come to think of it, bound_tail is still somewhat ambiguous.
OH GOD IT BURNS

https://e621.net/post/show/400113 is mostly what I was thinking of at the time. Not where a tail is just draped over someone or loosely coiled around a part of them. Blegh.

Going through tail_wrap, the vast majority of them are the tail binding item, with a few where the tail is just draped over the other person ( https://e621.net/post/show/284105 or https://e621.net/post/show/202020 or https://e621.net/post/show/160626 is not tail wrap, for example, but... what do we call it?) and a handful of images of tails curling around partners. Is the slight curve of the tail cupping the arm in https://e621.net/post/show/136161 or https://e621.net/post/show/111559 and other images sufficient to call it a wrap (or whatever we end up calling "tails wrapped around someone")? I don't think so.

EDIT: KTKR, check out this; Not sure which side should be aliased to which, all things considered, but we do need to be consistant on format for the tags for when a limb or set of limbs is bound or tied up.

How about using grabbing_with_tail for when the tail is being used to constrict or grab objects, and for the former also add bound tag.

There's also the prehensile_tail tag, which has a lot of images similar to tail_wrap.

As for the bound_*, tied_* and *_bondage... Yeah, we need some standard for those. They're all over the place.

But I'm not sure how to even start untangling this whole thing.

I'm thinking that coiling (and maybe constriction) already cover that well enough, might not need a tail tag.

there's an image of a skunk doing the same thing with just her tail, few others where it's only a section of tail doing the wrapping. Should those just be coiling/constriction, too?

Prehensile_tail doesn't work for the tail draping, but the cases where it is wrapping around something or someone, that actually is accurate; looks like we found how to clean up those images.

Hard to say without seeing the image, but sounds like constricting_tail would be an appropriate for that.

Yep. Maybe we should start with that, and see exactly what's left in tail_wrap after those have been sorted out. Might make it easier to figure out how to untangle the rest.

So to summarize: change all tail_wrap that refer to a tail wrapping around someone into prehensile_tail?

Sounds about right.
