Topic: Apparently FurAffinity was acquired by IMVU

Wow old thread, RIP Tuvalu.

Will anything actually be different now that they're independent?

I kinda doubt it, seemed like they'd been running mostly autonomously throughout the whole IMVU ownership anyway. I'm pretty sure the whole thing was just some advertising stunt for IMVU the whole time.

Yeah, that's basically what I want to ask. What changed when they were bought out in the first place?

Honestly from my perspective, there wasn't much change; some people hoped IMVU would kick their butts into gear and get actual foundational changes into the site that they had been promising for months and years before then, but it didn't really. Some people hoped IMVU could actually infuse money into the site to allow them to do things they couldn't do before, and while I can't say how much money IMVU put into the site, FA did create the FA+ paid subscription system under it, so apparently if they were given anything from IMVU, it wasn't enough. With becoming independent again, the site has promised increasing the value of FA+, presumably as a way to help continue funding the site. How much will paid features be pushed in our faces? What will it be like as a non-paid user as they add to FA+? Who knows.

This is quite the dusty thread

That’s what I was thinking

I'm not sure if whether Dragoneer or IMVU pulled it out.

If Dragoneer pulled it, then it probably had enough funds (along with FA+) to upgrade the site. Some people think that it was a stupid move to sell it back to him.

If IMVU pulled it, then it had something to do with problematic users (coughaltrighterscough), considering on what happened last January.

Dunno. That's my speculation, and I'm depending on what the Twitter announcement has to say about it. I'm just here waiting for the upgrades where I can finally rename my account and upload my 10Mb PNG files without compressing it.

Updated

I'm just glad they're working on "larger image uploads." Hopefully this means raising the cap from 1280x1280 to whatever InkBunny or DA sets the limit to.

^MMmm. πŸ‘πŸ½

By the way, I have found the reason why Dragoneer brought back FA from IMVU.
Basically, he was no longer an IMVU employee, and rather than IMVU selling it and/or shut it down, 'Neer bought it at the cost of his medical insurance.

I just hope people would help him with his meds especially around this time.

Also, trad carefully at the comments section.

Given Furaffinity's track record with updating anything, expect any changes have an ETA of "shortly after the return of Christ".
You can upload as large of images as you want as it stands, by the way, just upload a placeholder, then replace the file with a larger one. To demonstrate; https://www.furaffinity.net/view/35606440/

It's been a lifehack for a long time now. I wait for the day where the site could upgrade their upload limit without the need/hassle of reuploading your file.

Well yeah but most people either don't know or don't care about doing it, so not having to deal with it would be nice.

it always hurts to see artists post 4k art on other sites and then furaffinity gets 1280p

Or worse, when there's a 4k png on Pixiv that's censored, and 4k uncensored on Twitter that's a compressed jpg, and an uncensored png on FA that's 1280p.

And even then, most of those PNGs are actually converted JPEGs by FA that still have the ".png" file name extension.

On one hand, I'm glad IMVU doesn't have any of their fingers in FA anymore, and that its now free of them through and through.

On the other hand, all of the current mods are still there, and many of them are blind yes-men who purge from the site whatever content Dragoneer wants them to do away with according to the post-2017 rules. Examples: Content involving visual depictions of a right-facing swastika, no matter the context because "muh feelings" from twittards, and more recently, anything they deem to be "disinfo" about COVID-19, ANY discussion of Qanon no matter what the circumstances are. At the same time they don't do anything against pro-Antifa, Maoism, nor Trotsky-ist or Leninist content. And on top of all that, they officially bent the knee to ""BLM"" with an official page for that damn hypocritical movement and their BULLSHIT schtick on the main site! At least with DA the rules aren't as restrictive when it comes to most politics and the forums aren't so restrictive. Albeit they don't allow full-on porn on their site.

definitely doesn't sound like you're biased, no siree

There's more to a movement than its name. You don't judge books by their cover. Judge movements by their actions.
