Topic: Apparently FurAffinity was acquired by IMVU

Posted under Off Topic

I can understand Nintendo getting into the smartphone market with their recent partnership with DeNA, but I don't understand this and it's purpose.

Simply put, I'm a die-hard Nintendo fanboy, so I have a broader knowledge of that instead of FurAffinity.

I'm just annoyed that my FA inbox is full of journals of people saying that they're leaving, and even more journals by people who think those people are being retarded for leaving.

At least Neer is not the owner anymore.
Gonna be fun to see how/if imvu fucks up.

Personally, I don't like IMVU. Now, you might say "how can you not like it if you haven't tried it?" Well, I just don't... I can't explain why

Now, I wonder what is Patchi's opinion on this (yeah, I like her sarcasm c: )

Y would anyone want imvu it's trash 2nd life rip off with no nudity or sex animations allowed. Also apparently dragonner only had 50% hold on the ownership of the site and someone else owns the other 50% and had no say in the sale of fa or something.

Honestly not as bad as I was expecting based on the comments I saw on the journal. I was expecting them to look more like this

They don't allow nudity or sex but buy a furry website full of the most fucked up fetishes you could think of, and then even more that you probably couldn't even imagine. I don't understand.

Duh, obviously, they won't present an actual screenshot. Instead, they preferred to present a better render. That's how advertising works (not in all cases, of course, but in most) :/

Imvu has been pushing furry stuff for a long time, so them buying FA, the biggest furry website out there..makes sense....sorta

I don't know what their going to do with it

This is like Facebook buying oculus rift

Considering that they don't allow adult material, and FA is just a huge cesspit of porn and horrible fetishes, it really doesn't make any sense at all.
Add to that that imvu is largely driven by microtransactions, you can kinda suspect that they might try and sneak some of em' into FA.

It would have made sense if Linden Labs bought FA, but not imvu.

It all just seem more shady by the post.
Piche sold the site without even discussing it with the other owner?
Wait, Arcturus partly owns FA?
The transaction happened months ago?

Sure they do.
There's almost as much porn on IMVU as on Second Life. It's allowed, as long as it's not public. Just google search for 'imvu porn'.

I had no idea that it's popular among furries, though. I know that IMVU sells some furry avatars (including nudes), but I had assumed that it's very marginal there..

Alright.
Edit: Holy crap that looks like shite. I thought that Second Life porn was laughably poor in quality, but daaaamn!

From the new Q&A it seems that P. Piche is still the head honcho of the site. Odd.

I don't know specifically how owning a website works, but it's probably similar enough to how shareholders can own a company, which means that a partial owner can have all kinds of weird relationships with their own proprietaries. It isn't the same as owning a piece of land, so let's say you own a majority share of Walmart, you could still get kicked out and banned from any Walmart store for doing something illegal there, but it wouldn't affect your shareholdings at all.

Anyway, I say this is a good thing. A for-profit agency owning FA? Hopefully they finally make it so that users have to pay the artist something to look at adult art.

I really hope that something bad will happen to FA. People there deserve everything bad that happens to them. I thought that it would be difficult to top suddenly removing comment section under site announcement because suddenly found performance issues, but this shit has potential.

Not cool. I would never wish harm on anyone with the exception of extreme cases, and a single website is certainly not reason enough.

lol (sorry for going off topic) thats funny since a mmo i recently started playing called project gorgon lets certain bosses/NPC's change you into different animals which usually results in NPC merchants and whatnot saying speciesist stuff about your character.

um, cow, pig, spider, wolf, deer...bird if you train druid skill (classless skill system btw), i think thats most or all forms so far and the game has surprisingly few major bugs from what i've seen despite being in alpha stage of development.

Naw, I meant Vincente Fox which Xch3l mentioned, who was (at one point) the Presidente of Mexico. Given his name, it made me wonder if he had any furry art of him anthropomorphized into an actual fox, even if it was just as a political cartoon and not from the furry community even. If it never happened, then it was a missed opportunity.

But that is interesting about Obama, esp mlp obama which I wouldn't have guessed there'd be much of that. But I guess it's the internet, so that was inevitable sooner or later, right? lol

They are fond of using term "pedos" for people on IB on their forum while there's dog fucker, and maybe someone even worse, on their staff. They have no sympathy from me when something bad happens to FA.

LOL, it turns out that IMVU is selling artwork of people from FA without even crediting them. :D
I would not be surprised if new FA TOS will state that now IMVU have rights to do that. Like Instagram did or still do.

Oh, come on! There's even this!

This product is provided by a third-party seller, MissHarleyQuin, who has warranted that they have all appropriate rights to any content involved. IMVU takes copyright infringment seriously. To learn more about our policy, including takedown procedures, please click here. For more on the IMVU Creator program, which lets you create items for sale in the IMVU catalog, please click here.

That's obviously a disclaimer that protects IMVU from direct liability on part of the actions of a specific user. So one user who is using their service violated their terms of agreement and is trying to sell Falvie's art.

It isn't specifically IMVU that you could do this sort of thing on. I could go to any site that I can upload content and upload Falvie's art, claim it was mine, and attempt to profit off it if I wanted.

The problem is the artist probably has to do a takedown and they aren't even aware of it. I see stuff exactly like this on SL and Tumblr all the time.

As Ozelot pointed out, those are sold by the users.
Just like on Second Life, most of the content is user-created and sold under the assumption that the user who's selling it made it themselves.

IMVU only checks it if someone reports it. So there's tons of stuff that breaks all kinds of copyrights, ranging from Disney and Star Wars to furry images.

Not only on IMVU, but everywhere too... :/

---

So, all this said, it's not really IMVU who is selling artwork without artist's permission, even though they get a small portion of the profits1. They're only guilty of displaying the item.

1: I don't really know how the game's economy system works, though. I'm just assuming that they do get something

Oh, dang, forgot about this (thanks treos). Fox had a running joke about his boots and his catchphrase ("chiquillos y chiquillas", meaning " boys and girls". Often made fun as "[male word] and [female word]" with a deep voice).

You know pretty well that even if it turned out that dragoneer had sold their souls to the devil months ago it still wouldn't be enough reason to leave FA for most of the people. I don't believe in any real exodus unless nuclear missiles are involved.

Meanwhile on twitter:

Yes, it's this zidonuke. :D

Apparently Fur Affinity is under the independent ownership of Dragoneer again, under the new company - Frost Dragon Art, LLC.
I kinda wonder what are the actual changes that have happened to the site during the past 6 years with IMVU.
