I've recently obtained the Bayonetta Original Soundtrack after playing through the first game on the Wii U. Long story short, that soundtrack almost toppled my number 0ne pick for best video game music ever (Kingdom Hearts).

Here are a few tracks that stand out to me.

One of a Kind
Blood & Darkness
The Greatest Jubilee

Loved C&C Generals as well. Trying out the differnet abilities of the generals was always a lot of fun. I usually go for the 'Turtle' strategy: Sit tight, build a huge army and then strike once to win. xD

I think we can all agree that the terrorists were the best part of that game.

Agreed. They certainly are fun to play as.
As for the soundtrack, I don't remember any songs from C&C Generals as well as I do for Red Alert 2 or Tiberium Sun.

demon's crest remixes it's not that different from the normal tracks (in fact, i think it's mainly just a medley ofthe different tracks) but the artwork fits nicely.

makes me wonder where i could find more pics like those seen in this video. sure it's dark, gothic, and maybe a tad morbid but overall it's actually pretty nice.

I think a lot of the paintings are from the medieval times depicting the plague. I've seen a few of them in my history books.

:/ that was a dark and unpleasant time. still, nice enough paintings though.

Picked this up on a whim for a dollar knowing nothing about it, because how many times do you get the chance to own a giant screaming ear - and it turns to be a prog/fusion #1 from 1976....I was not expecting that

Manfred Mann's Earth Band - The Roaring Silence

In a weird synchronicity, they'd later collaborate with the Super Furry Animals

huh, interesting. the bgm (can't really comment on the lyrics as i don't read/speak german but that doesn't matter to me much so long as the music is good sounding overall) there kinda reminds me of this old pc soundtrack i downloaded at some point. think the game was called jazz jackrabbit or something. never played the game but not bad bgm.

think i might download that video later.

I completely agree. As long as the song is good I really don't care what language it is sung in. Since I am trying to learn German in my spare time, I use songs from bands like Kraftwerk and Rammstein to help me along. :)

A lot of Kraftwerk's songs are translated into English and they work pretty well in my opinion. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wop47G2qeY
I also remember playing Jazz Jackrabbit on PC when I was little, if only fragments. But I remember I enjoyed the game a lot. xD

A couple of my favourite bands:

Converge
August Burns Red
The Dillinger Escape Plan
Gojira
Meshuggah
Mastodon
Glassjaw
Deftones
Opeth
Tool
Dream Theater
Rage Against the Machine

That's all that comes to my mind at the moment, but any type of metal or punk music is nice.

Cool. I thought I would add some of mine as well. :)

Dire Straits
Queen
Toto
Pet Shop Boys
Franz Ferdinand
Gyllene Tider
Modern Talking
ELO
China Crisis
10cc

There are a lot more bands I enjoy too but that would make this list too long. xD

Sadly, no.

Though I don't think I'll touch another FE game until Fire Emblem Fates.

My backlog is large enough as is.

Who here remembers The House of the Dead 2

http://youtube.com/watch?v=VV6L4TCM4bU

Still one of the greatest soundtracks of all time, in fact the very first CD I ever ripped to mp3 (import and all)

The fact they mixed some electric hammond in with the pipe organ to give a 70's exploitation horror feel is such a cool touch.....Sega had such great composers

lol this one sounds fitting for this site. Dirtiest Song that Ain't

About a month late before I noticed this comment, but yeah, I like Voltaire. This song in particular is one of my favorites.

Anyway, I've got a few songs I've heard recently that caught my attention.

Etenraku
Fast Boogie
Break Ya Neck

Too bad the cool music is largely offset by the voice 'acting'.

Grab a subwoofer and gather 'round because here there be noise complaints and dancing furniture.

Playlist [Youtube] | [Spotify]

The spotify link is in a much higher quality and apparently I can't find "2,4,6,8 Feel The Bass - Bass Dominator" on youtube (there are hits, but they are either remixes, or another song altogether).

Some other stuff:

Imagine Dragons - Radioactive [Y] <- Spotify version is the proper, non music video version
Powerwolf - Lucifer in Starlight [Y]
Three Days Grace - I Am Machine [Tape.tv] <- Hella edgy

Mortemia - Misere Mortem <- Entire album

heres a couple of good tracks from the NDS game The World Ends With You:

first is my favorite theme and the theme of my favorite character from the game. Sho Minamimoto's theme Three Minutes Clapping

Transformation

pretty good game, a bit tricky though since you have to basically fight in 2 places at once. that can make later fights and boss battles pretty tricky sometimes.

I recently found and downloaded 33 GBs worth of Final Fantasy music, aka just about every single piece presently, as far as I'm aware of.

I already have a few GB of it, so that will be easy to delete. But the rest is new and something that I'll properly sort out and get to listen to, once I play the FF game it belongs to.

The Final Fantasy OSTs are awesome! I especially love Nobuo Uematsu's work.

Just incase you haven't already, you should also get your hands on a copy of these for more epic music:

The Black Mages: The Black Mages
The Black Mages II: The Skies Above
The Black Mages III: Darkness and Starlight
Earthbound Papas: Octave Theory
Earthbound Papas: Dancing Dad

As far as OSTs go, I'd suggest the Ecco the Dolphin OST.

I never actually got all that far in the game because some of the music creeped my younger self out. And that requires an impressive amount of atmosphere for a 16 bit soundtrack.

There are too many good ones there for me to really suggest any in particular.

Besides that I also found UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List which contains, among many other things, a bunch of various genres of music to look up. Many people, I guess, would classify that as "world music", but I hate that categorization with a passion.

I've found a few things so far, but I thought this sounded particularly interesting, and I liked it. It's Mongolian throat singing (Hoomii).

...Yup. I have all three of those Black Mages albums. I'll most likely listen, sort, and then transfer to my smartphone the FF music that isn't directly from the main games (until I play them anyway, and I've currently played/beaten Final Fantasy I to V).

So, that would include the tribute albums, Distant Worlds, drammatica, mixes and remixes, guitar versions, symphonic suites, piano collections, anniversary albums, etc.

Stuff like this is just unbelievably fucking cool.......speaking of global empires, Xarhanga was a great portuguese band from the early 70’s who started out as Sabbath-styled proto-metal before eventually shifting to more progressive pastures –– their sole album Bota-Fora was a tribute to the dissolution of the african colonial holdings and has some of the most varied and interesting sounds of the era, like a mix of european classicism and ritualistic tribal dances.

I can't listen exclusively to any sort of music, and game music, despite it's amazing diversity, is no exception, so massive playlists like that post deter me more than they help me, unfortunately. Not that I don't find the collection quite impressive, of course, because I do.

Unrelated to that, but related to the earlier thing, I'm seriously going to have to either find an emulator for Ecco or find a way to plug my genesis into a slightly more modern television, because I'm getting some pretty massive nostalgia pangs right now.

welp, here goes my emulation related help for now. check you're PM inbox here. ;)

oh yeah, not spoiling anything but...have fun with the atlantis maze in one of the ecco games (i don't remember which exactly) after the alien queen. iirc i once saw a let's play that literally took hours just to get through that final section. VERY long and hard lvl for a genesis game, that's for sure.

Now here's a thought. Would anyone be interested in a full list of the music I listen to regularly? About 180 songs (at the moment)? If you guys would like that sort of thing I wouldn't mind putting in the effort of writing it all out and linking it, but I also don't know if anyone would. It's... I think a pretty diverse collection.

Okay, so for the sake of ease, I'm just going to try to divide things up into larger categories as best I can (there is overlap between styles, which made some things difficult). That said, that's not how I listen to music - I always listen on shuffle so I don't remain in one category for any length of time. So I'd encourage bouncing around between the categories a bit, shuffle-style.

Pop

Koala - Molecules (this needs some more love than it's gotten, in my opinion)
Low Roar - Tonight Tonight Tonight (Dream pop)
Micheal Jackson - Got to Be There (Bubblegum pop with a child singer, so fair warning there)
Marc With a C - I'm In Love With Everyone I Know (Not a Youtube link)
T.M. Revolution - Resonance (J-Pop. Soul Eater Op 1)
Hatsune Miku - Shadow Stepping (J-Pop made with a Vocaloid program)
Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World (Traditional Pop)
The Beatles - Maxwell's Silver Hammer (Bit of a violence-warning with the video. Animated gore)
Adriano Celentano - Prisencolinensinainciusol (Gibberish lyrics designed to sound like American English)
Scissor Sister - I can't decide (Gloriously gay)

Bitpop

Professor Shyguy - Battlefight
Professor Shyguy - Science, Life, and ABCs (The video is particularly useful with this one)
047 - General Error
Rymdreglage - Ninja Chips (Much more "bit" and less "pop" than the others, to me)

Popular (not pop)

Sayuri Ishikawa - Amagi-Goe (Enka. Japanese name and song title: 石川さゆり - 天城越え)
Harumi Miyako - 北の宿から (Enka. I don't have the Romanji name for this song. Japanese name of singer, I think: 都はるみ)
Omou Sangare: Djama Kaissoumou (Wassoulou)
Raulin Rodriguez - Que Vuelva (Bachata)

Blues

Little Walter - Fast Boogie (I love the Harmonica)"
Little Walter - Last Night
Big Bill Broonzy: Black, Brown and White

This section is actually emptier than I expected. I'm going to have to fix that one of these days.

Rock

Including Pop Rock here because you can't stop me!

They Might Be Giants - Whistling in the Dark (I love the lyrics to this one. Also the drum)
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Queen - Killer Queen
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
The Tragically Hip - 38 Years Old (Folk Rock)
Zager and Evans - In the Year 2525 (Exordium and Terminus) (Folk Rock... I guess?)
Billy Joel - We Didn't Start the Fire (Pop Rock)
The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) (Pop Rock)
Crush 40 - I am... All of Me (This game is so awful, but I find this song catchy. True Ambivalence)
Aqua Timez - Alones (J-Rock. Youtube versions of this song are pitch-altered, because the band is pissy about that sort of thing I guess. This was the only way I could find to link it, and I cannot vouch for the site in any way. Bleach Op 6)
UVERworld - D-tecnolife (J-Rock. Bleach Op. 2. I can't stand the full version of this, so have the short version)
Five For Fighting - Superman (Soft Rock)
Five For Fighting - 100 Years (Soft Rock. This song kinda hits hard for me. Songs about not having enough time to be with someone hit hard when your preferred partner only has a lifespan of 15 years, at best)
Maija Vikkumaa - Hiuksissa Hiekkaa (Suomirock. Finnish, if you're curious)

Punk/New Wave

Gogol Bordello - American Wedding (Gypsy Punk)
Nena - 99 Luftballons (New Wave. More specifically, Neue Deutsche Welle)
Nik Kershaw - The Riddle (New Wave)
Tom Robinson Band - Glad to Be Gay (New Wave)
Voltaire - Death Death (Devil Devil Evil Evil Song) (Dark Cabaret)

Metal

Arkona - Na Moey Zemle (The song that got me into metal. Sung in six languages, with six bands contributing. Arkona (Russian), Månegarm (Sweden), Obtest (Lithuanian), Menhir (German), Skyforger (Latvian), Heidevolk (Dutch). Absolutely amazing song)
Arkona - Duren` (Pagan Metal)
Arkona - Goi, Rode, Goi! (Pagan Metal)
Heidevolk - Als De Dood Weer Naar Ons Lacht (Folk Metal)
Eluveitie - Omnos (Folk Metal. In Gaulish. Which is a dead language. Also about a girl having sex with a wolf, but unfortunately it's a metaphor)
Sunn O))) - Defeating Earth's Gravity (Drone Metal)
Rammstein - Amerika (Industrial Metal)
Rammstein - Rammstein (Industrial Metal)
Five Finger Death Punch - Wrong Side of Heaven
Epica - Tides of Time (Symphonic Metal)
Epica - Chasing the Dragon (Symphonic Metal)

Country (incl. Bluegrass)

Including some other related stuff here.

Gillian Welch - One More Dollar (Americana. Not the exact same version I listen to, actually, but similar enough and the video amused me)
Charlie Daniels Band - Uneasy Rider (Southern Rock)
Charlie Daniels Band - The Devil Went Down to Georgia (Southern Rock)
Johnny Cash - A Boy Named Sue (Apparently this was written by Shel Silverstein. Which is great)
Johnny Cash - I Walk the Line
Sierra Hull - Bombshell (Bluegrass)
Sleepy Man Banjo Boys - Time Lapse (Bluegrass. I suggest paying attention to how well they pass the lead off from instrument to instrument)

Rap/Hip Hop

Kendrick Lamar - The Art of Peer Pressure (Conscious Rap. There are two versions of this song. This is the one I prefer, but it seems to be the less popular of the two)
Noname Gypsy - Sunday Morning (I would also call this Conscious Rap, but, what do I know?)
Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise (Gangster Rap. Everyone seems to see this song differently than I do)
Volant - Full Circle (Glitch Hop. Could have been categorized any number of places but whatever. I'm putting it here because I noticed it this run-through)
clipping. - Story 2 (Very dark song. Fair warning)
Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood
Del Tha Funkee Homosapien - Mistadobalina
Busta Rhymes - Break Ya Neck
Sage Francis - The Best of Times (Almost qualifies as Spoken Word, in my opinion, but, whatever, it fits here too)

Jazz

Including Salsa here because it's sort of a fusion genre with Jazz from what I've read, and it makes some things simpler too.

John Coltrane - Giant Steps (Bebop)
Sonny Rollins - St. Thomas (Bebop)
Herbie Hancock - Watermelon Man (Jazz Funk)
SOIL AND "PIMP" SESSIONS - Pop Korn (Death Jazz)
SOIL AND "PIMP" SESSIONS - Mars (Death Jazz)
Revolution Void - Ventus Solaris (Nu-Jazz. You might recognize from the flash game Amorphous+)
Revolution void - Biomythos (Nu-Jazz)
Revolution Void - Factum Par Fictio (Nu-Jazz)
Miles Davis - All Blues (Modal Jazz. My go-to song for people who say they don't like Jazz)
Har-You Percussion Group - Welcome to the Party (Latin Jazz)
Oscar D'Leon - LLoraras (Salsa)
Mi Son - Mechánica de Amor (Salsa? Or Son? I've heard both, and they're fairly closely related)
Benny Goodman - Swing Swing Swing (Swing)
Ella Fitzgerald - Day and Night (Swing)

Reggae

Peter Fox - Schwarz zu Blau (Dancehall)
Peter Fox - Das zweilte Geisicht (Dancehall)
Eek-A-Mouse - Ganja Smuggling (Dancehall)
Vavamuffin - Odrobina Tej Radości (Raggamuffin)
Manu Chao - Clandestino
Tabu - Jak Dobrze Cię Widzieć (Language is Polish, if you're curious. Reggae is big in Poland apparently!)

Electronic and Dance

The Killers - Human (Alternative Dance)
Razihel - Children of the Night (Bounce)
Razihel - Skybreaker (Dubstep)
Mikromusic - Takiego Chłopaka (Trip Hop)
Virtual Riot - Energy Drink (Complextro)
Camo & Krooked - Run Riot (Drum and Bass)
Gigi D'Agostino - Bla Bla Bla (Dance)
Basshunter - Vi Sitter I Ventrillo Och Spelar Dota (Dota for short. Dance)
Eurobeat Brony - Luna (Dream Mode) (Eurobeat)
Eurobeat Brony - Art of the Dress (Eurobeat)
Kitsune^2 - Yiff Yiff Yiff (Very appropriate song for this site)
O-Zone - Dragostea Din Tei (Eurodance. Also known as the Numa Numa song)
The Synthetic Dream Foundation - Glittered Ripples from the Depths (IDM)
IOSYS - FOE! To no Songuu (J-Core)
IOSYS - Cirno's Perfect Math Class (J-Core)
Mystery Skulls - Ghost (Nu-Disco)
Darude - Sandstorm (Techno)

Electronic (other)

Oval - Do While (Glitch)
Ryoji Ikeda - Data.Microhelix (Glitch. I suggest listening to his stuff with headphones on)
Social Interiors - Traces of Mercury (Soundscape. Spotify, not Youtube link. First Song)
Spacebrony - Changelings Never Change
Sherbert Fox - Zora's Domain (couldn't find the song by itself)
Röyksopp - Thank You
Dr. Steel - Lament for a Toy Factory (Industrial)
Modern Witch - Cinema (Witch House. Which I guess house is dance but this doesn't seem dance-ey to me)

Classical

Johannes Sebastian Bach - Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565 (Baroque)
Edvard Grieg - In the Hall of the Mountain King
Samuel Barber - Adiago for Strings (Contemporary Classical)
Ralph Vaughan Williams - The Lark Ascending (Contemporary Classical)

Celtic Thunder - Seven Drunken Nights (An Irish Drinking Song)
The Dubliners - The Sick Note (Irish Folk)
Khusugtun - Samgaldai (Hoomii. Mongolian Throat Singing)

Le Trio Joubran - Masâr (Oud)
Le Trio Joubran - Shajan (Oud)
Munkhbaatar - Huren Tolgoin Suuder (Urtin Duu)

Soundtracks and Musicals

There are some things in here that could have been in other areas, but that's sort of how soundtracks work sometimes.

TK from Ling Tosite Sigure - Unravel (Tokyo Ghoul Opening)
Kalafina - Magia (Madoka Magika)
Linked Horizon - Guren no Yumiya (Attack on Titan)
John Morris - Springtime for Hitler (From The Producers. As you might expect from the name, it might be highly offensive)
Robert Lopez/Jeff Marx - Schadenfreude (From Avenue Q)
Tony Jay - Hellfire (Hunchback of Notre Dame)
Richard Stone - Presidents Song (Animaniacs)
Shiro Sagisu - Invasion (Bleach OST)
Tamiya Terashima - Big Jaw Comes to Steal Crying Children (From You Are Umasou, a movie you should seriously watch)

Bartholomäus Traubeck - Picea (Spruce) (Experiemental. Bandcamp link. Made from a program that reads tree rings like an old spinning record and turns that data into piano music)

Never again. That took hours. I think about six? I hope you guys appreciate that! Heh.

you know, you probably could've put your collection on a google drive (assuming theres enough space there) and given a link with it divided into a different folder/genre.

might have saved some work that way without the need of tons of different links going all over the place.

I could have done that, but for personal reasons I sort of wanted things listed out like this anyway. If I had realized just how long it would take, I probably would have done it another way though.

a metric tonne of music

this is awesome.....this is seriously why the all-media approach here makes this one of the best archives in conception

I agree you could really use some more blues.....some of the heaviest animal symbolism comes from the itinerant tradition – people like Howlin' Wolf or Furry Lewis pretty much changed the entire game. Have you ever seen anyone play a guitar like that

(Furry's Blues)

Extremely random connection I find funny enough; the line 'if the river were whiskey' was later used as a song by the band Eat My Fuk, a sort-of-tribute to Scumfuc-era GG Allin by Chris Reifert of Autopsy and Death (same guy who drummed on Scream Bloody Gore, the first true death metal album of all time....[Seven Churches erred a bit heavily on blackened thrash in my opinion])

Subject matter notwithstanding, his song Fuckin' The Dog from the Eat My Fuc album may have the absolute filthiest grimiest production ever laid down to wax.....

lol wonder how many potentially furry-intepretive songs can be dug out of history

A good place for starting off to really cut your teeth on the blues is The Super Super Blues Band –– this was a collaboration between Bo Diddley, Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters organized by the younger Chess Records execs trying to capitalize on the swinging atmosphere of the late sixties by psyching out the classic delta/chicago formulae with a heavy dose of ’67 groove. The back LP sleeve notes were actually written by Richard Meltzer, philosophy-student-cum-rock-critic and early Blue Öyster Cult lyricist; reproduced here cos nothing can hype it better than the man himself

“Too many collaborations of musical giants turn out to be bummers where either the forces nullify each other, or only the mere fact of collaboration, and not the end product, is what matters. This collaboration is no bummer. It is, in fact, the paradigm meeting of titans on record. Description adds little to the event, but it is hard to resist throwing in your own critical gravy when men are throwing in so much of their own art. So here perhaps is the most awesome case of men really getting their teeth into each other’s viscera, each other’s clichés.
Muddy, Bo and Wolf stay out of each other’s way, step all over each other, laugh at and with each other. They intimidate each other, shrug off and ignore each other, groove on and with each other. Equal moves from all directions come out of all this pressure, further insuring the same total nibbling at the entire cosmic scene –– where everything is relevant because everything is visible and nothing is relevant because visibility is nothing and nothing is everything. Everything appears as hint because nothing is there, and there are no hints because everything is there. And the blues is all. And Muddy, Bo and Wolf are the blues. They are even the Nietzschean multiple divinity at the very least.”
– Richard Meltzer (Crawdaddy! mag)

This may just be the single best version of the Spoonful standard eh-ver......even considering its provenance from the 1927 record Cocaine Blues (the actual spoonful referred to) it remains as timelessly relevant as ever to the lengths some will go to satisfy their cravings, whatever they may be

Well see here's the weird thing. I actually listen to blues all the time. I love the sound of the blues. So I don't know how I only have three blues songs.

I guess I got it into my head that I was listening to too much blues, actually, and so I stopped searching for new songs in the genre for a while. I guess... I just didn't save any of the ones I liked? Or I enjoyed a lot of them but they rarely had the punch to them that makes me remember "save that!". I'm not sure.

Still, I appreciate the suggestions here. I'll get to them pretty shortly. Right now there's actually a... Well I think it's a subgenre of blues, from what I've managed to find, that I've been meaning to look into for a while... Jug Band Music. And seems like as good of a time as any. So listening to some Memphis Jug Band Blues right now.

Hey, I appreciate that. Having a big diversity in the music I listen to is what makes music enjoyable to me.

Though there are many genres that are underrepresented. I don't have any soul, gospel, R&B, or funk, for instance. And of course, there are a lot of traditional styles from around the world that are hard to even find examples of sometimes.

I'm proud of the variation that I have so far, but I guess what I'm saying is the more I look into it, the more I find genres that I haven't heard, which is honestly pretty cool.

Good list, but you forgot to add any "Epic Motivational" music, a la Two Steps From Hell.
