Species: bodhisattva
In Buddhism, a bodhisattva is a person who has attained, or is striving towards, bodhi ('awakening', 'enlightenment') or Buddhahood. Often, the term specifically refers to a person who forgoes or delays personal nirvana or bodhi in order to compassionately help other individuals reach Buddhahood.
Bodhisattvas can be differenciated from buddhas in art because a buddha is always depicted in simple monk's robes and without ornamentation to represent their renunciation, while a Bodhisattva is typically portrayed with ornate clothing, jewelry, and a crown, like a royal figure to portray their ties and duty to the material world.
