Captain America, also known by his civilian name Steven "Steve" Rogers, is a superhero and character in comics published by Marvel, created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. He first appeared in Captain America Comics #1, published on December 20, 1940, by Timely Comics, a corporate predecessor to Marvel.

Steve was originally a frail man until he joined the United States army during World War II, where he took a super-soldier serum that enhanced his physical abilities. Equipped with an American flag-inspired costume and a indestructable Vibranium shield, he was joined by his sidekick "Bucky" Barnes and clashed frequently with the Axis Powers during the war, until he was frozen in suspended animation during its final days. Following his reawakening in modern times, he resumes his costume exploits and became a frequent member of the Avengers, but struggles to adjust to the new era as a "man out of time."

During the 1992 "Man and Wolf" story arc, Captain America became a werewolf for a brief period while investigating the disappearance of John Jameson (also known as the Man-Wolf). This form, while short-lived throughout the span of arc, has been refered to as Capwolf.
