A Phone, short for telephone is a telecommunications device that transmits sound through electronic signals over a distance. This is most often used to conduct conversations between individuals. For a character actively talking on a phone, use phone call.
Types of Phones
- cellphone: any handheld mobile telephone
- brick phone: the earliest cellphones, large, blocky mobile phones with antenna used from the 1980s to early 1990s
- bar phone: a wide range of bar-shaped cellular devices
- flip phone: a clamshell style folding cellphone, popular from the 1990s to late 2000s
- smartphone: a mobile computing device with telephone capabilities
- landline phone: a phone connected via wires to a telephone line, usually sits on a desk or is mounted to a wall
- payphone: A public pay-per-use telephone, usually wall mounted or housed inside a telephone booth
- rotary phone: a telephone with a rotary dial instead of buttons or a touch screen interface
