Pleasure Island is a fictional location in Pinocchio, namely its 1940 animated film adaptation by Disney. It is portrayed in the movie as an amusement park that entices young boys with free food, games, and unchecked anarchy. The island functions as a trap by the evil coachman, as the boys who indulge here are cursed to turn into donkeys (or "jackasses") and are subsequently sold into forced labor.
In the original story, the location is known as the Land of Toys (Italian: il paese dei balocchi), and is branded as a haven where children can freely do whatever they want without consequence or law, only to catch "donkey fever" and turn into donkeys.
Thematically, donkeys in Italian culture represent foolishness and labor. The children, who end up on the island by a false sense of freedom, are usually tempted by its vices and are unaware of the sinister implications that wull consume them later. As a result of these temptations, they become donkeys due to misbehavior, which is a common motif in fables.
Tagging note: this is typically used to portray donkey transformation art, usually with motifs from the Pinnochio movie, i.e. a bar setting, cigar, a glass of beer, and/or a game of billiards. Some art is very adult in nature and the people involved are grown adults, as opposed to children for the most part.
