Meta is Greek for "after" or "beyond", used among other things to refer to self, as in meta-jokes or "jokes about jokes" or in other ways refer to something in a higher level.
An example could be a character depicted literally drawing themselves in a picture, or may include scenes where breaking the fourth wall occurs.
