Autumn (sometimes referred to as "Fall" in North America), is one of the four seasons experienced in temperate climates.
Autumn marks the transition from summer to winter which begins in September (Northern Hemisphere ) or March (Southern Hemisphere ). During this season, temperatures cool considerably and the arrival of night becomes noticeably earlier; the most visible and emblematic feature of the season is the leaves of deciduous trees changing colours, those leaves shedding, and falling to the ground; because of this, "autumnal colours" are orange, red, brown, and yellow.
Autumn is generally associated with harvest festivals, the celebration of Halloween (31st October), and in North America with Thanksgiving (taking place in October in Canada, and November in the United States of America). Art depicting autumn scenes frequently show characters outdoors enjoying the milder temperatures; sitting in parks or around a campfire, carving a pumpkin, drinking hot beverages, raking leaves, or playing in leaf piles.
