tablet computer
A tablet computer, often simply called a "tablet", is a mobile computing device with a touch screen display. While "tablet" alone is also used to refer to a drawing tablet, or a stone tablet, in this article "tablet" will be used to refer to tablet computers.
Most tablets have similar capabilities, share operating systems with, and even visually resemble smartphones, but are physically larger than any cellphone. Tablets are used to view media, communicate, record information and browse the internet, while not used as a cellphone, a tablet may be used to make and receive voice or video calls.
Tagging Notes
- Tablet may be seen used with wireless keyboards, or used for writing or drawing with a stylus pen, but should never be confused with a laptop computer or drawing tablet.
- Tablets do not have attached keyboards, and are usually smaller than a laptop
- Tablets are self-contained mobile computers — drawing tablets are merely interface devices that require a connection to a computer in order to function
- Sci-fi or fantasy devices that have similar forms and functions to real world tablet can be tagged as tablet_computer
- The exception to this is the Sheikah Slate from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which is a distinct enough device to have its own tag
