Torrent is the the Player's Spirit Steed in Elden Ring gifted to them by Melina, the Kindling Maiden upon becoming Maidenless no more, stating "Use it to traverse great distances. It will summon a spectral steed named Torrent. Torrent has chosen you. Treat him with respect." She is so far the only one to refer to Torrent as male in the game, everyone else leaving the subject untouched, including Lunar Princess Ranni who has close connections to Torrent and knows their past rider. "Ah. As I had hoped. I was entrusted this, for thee. By Torrent's former master. Tis a bell for calling forth spirits. Summon them with it, from ash unreturned to the Erdtree. The spirits will obey thine command but briefly, as they recall battles past. Now it is thine. To do with as thou wishest." Due to the lack of Torrent canonical lore, there are multiple speculations about multiple facets of Torrent's mysterious character. Including Torrent's true nature, who their former rider^(s) are, and even if they really are male or if that was a thoughtless choice of words by Melina. It is hoped that future content will expand Torrent' lore, and settle some of these speculations, as Torrent is the single-most loyal and steadfast companion to the tarnished and by extent, the player while playing Elden Ring.
