Chimalli are circular hide shields originating from Mesoamerican tribes like the nahua people. They are often decorated with many feathers and painted with traditional designs, such as the xicalcoliuhqui. They are artistic in nature, and while many were used by warriors, some were made strictly for ceremonial purposes as well.
