C++ is a compiled general purpose programming language created in 1985 as an extension of C. Code written in C++ has a few characteristics that make it distinguishable from other languages with similar syntax, such as the aforementioned C.
Here are a few things to look for to check if the code you're looking at is C++:
- using namespace ...; at the beginning of the code such as using namespace std;
- cout/cin used for the IO stream
- namespace::identifier such as std::endl;
- Arrow functions like << or >> for passing values such as the 4 in std::cout << 4;
