Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a 1964 Christmas stop motion animated television special produced by Rankin/Bass Productions. It is based on the character, poem, and song of the same name.
It annually airs multiple times a year throughout late November and most of December on many Broadcasting Networks including CBS, NBC, Freeform, etc.
The film is the longest continuously running animated Christmas TV special and the first in the Rankin/Bass animated universe. Its direct sequels are Rudolph's Shiny New Year and Rudolph & Frosty's Christmas in July. In 1998, GoodTimes Entertainment would create an unrelated Rudolph Christmas film titled Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Movie. They would later make another Direct-to-DVD Movie CGI sequel to the special with no influence from Rankin/Bass titled Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys.
