Character: boomer (meme)
Short for Baby Boomer, the Baby Boomer generation was a generation born after World War II, when soldiers came back home and the economy was flourishing. Due to these variables, there was a spike in new babies (a baby boom), of which generation they belong to.
This tag is used for characters whose canon age is from the Baby Boomer generation, or for those who appear old, but not quite senior old. It can also be used for those who have a “boomer personality” as explained below.
Omitting the “Baby” part of Baby Boomer was introduced as slang into popular lexicon in the late 2010s - early 2020s as a meme and partially as a way to insult members of that generation who could be seen as irritating because of them stating their outdated problematic political and cultural beliefs. The boomer personality they have been known for by younger generations mostly includes traits of being arrogant to younger generations’ struggles as they cannot empathize with them, since they grew up in a relatively prosperous time period, suggesting that the younger generations may be lazy in contrast when they assume that the younger generations have the same set of struggles as they did when they were young. Their belligerent social conservatism also contributes to the image of “boomer” as an insult.
Other stereotypes, regardless of being negative or not, may include them having a relaxed demeanor, cooking on a grill, energy drinks, and “my wife” jokes.
It became a meme that during an argument, a young person would respond to an older person with “ok boomer” if their argument was just too stupid and a waste of breath to refute. The boomer meme also spun off different memey terms like Zoomer (Gen Z), Coomer (someone who masturbates a lot or is insatiably horny), Doomer (someone who looks at the world in a pessimistic view all of the time), and Bloomer (someone who has an overly optimistic and happy view of the world), amongst others.
