Bivalves (class bivalvia) are restrictedly aquatic, filter feeding mollusks protected externally by a calcareous shell compound of two valves, which (almost always) fit perfectly.
Bivalves are well distributed world-wide, being found in many saltwater and freshwater ecosystems.
