A gesture that mimics stroking a penis — masturbating ("wanking") or performing a handjob. Forming the hand around a phantom phallus and moving the arm up and down.

The wanking gesture is frequently seen done by characters offering to perform a handjob, propositioning sex, or encouraging the viewer, or another to masturbate.

This gesture can also be a sign of disrespect, usually to signal that something is boring and/or "masturbatory", e.g. someone bragging at length about something. In this context, it may be combined with an eye roll, tongue out, or "blowing raspberries" (making a farting sound with the mouth).

Not to be confused with fellatio gesture

While both gestures involve mimicking stroking a penis, this gesture does not involve the character "stroking" the invisible penis towards their mouth
