Colored version of my last sketch. Once again, thanks to SacrificAbominat and Stevesalvy for the suggestions given during the sketch for fixing few mistakes. :)

Have fun with her. :D

How are you so good at drawing, and how do I get that good? My drawing on here is absolutely hideous :s

I can only tell you to continue practice, look for references and do more practice. ;)

In the beginning I was retracing and copying all the way, but like that you don't learn much, and you get stuck in a vicious circle.
I am still learning too tho, as in anatomy I have still many issues to fix. It will require years to master it. XD

I know that like this it doesn't help, but there are no shortcuts for these things... :/

Experiment, and be proud of your results, no matter if you are learning fast or slow. :)

  • Lovely work. I'm glad I could help you better this piece. Feel free to ask in the future if something looks off.

Also check out a Youtube channel by the name of Proko, he's got a lot of videos on how to construct the body, and how most of the muscles work. Hopefully that will help you with your anatomy.

Ah well, I was drawing a bunch of things (other than what I uploaded to this site), and finishing a lot of art, but I lost my HDD and most of my work, so... it is a bit demoralizing, especially since I'm so slow. (Took me like 2 weeks of work to draw my first drawing on here) I basically gave up I guess :/

Sorry if I'm butting in on your conversation but I think I have some encouraging words that may put a pep in your step.

Losing a HDD Sucks, but you haven't lost what you learned from creating that work. Don't let it get you down and keep creating art.

As for being slow there are a couple of factors that are probably causing this.

    1. You aren't spending enough time creating art on a daily basis. The more time you spend doing art the faster you will be as you go. Try to spend a minimum of an hour a day on something art related. You won't instantly see a speed boost from this, but this will lead to a gradual speeding up as well as a lot of improvement over time.

    2. Finding shortcuts: contrary to what notbad621 said about there not being shortcuts there actually are shortcuts to creating art. Though it isn't a matter of having someone else show you them. You will naturally find them as you work on improving your art. Through correcting mistakes and muscle memory you will eventually find your own shortcuts.

    3. KISS Keep it Simple Stupid: I know of so many artists who spend a lot of time focusing on a very detailed piece. Detail is great and all, but there is a cost to investing too much into it. Detail won't cover up flaws it will enhance them, this piece from when I was in college is a good example of that http://sacrificabominat.deviantart.com/art/The-two-of-them-together-LD2-Series-1-492062050 Try and simplify things as much as you can first, knock out as many flaws as you can in the simplified version of your work, and only after you are satisfied with the simplified version of the piece should you consider adding more detail.

    4. Look up resources more and rely less on memory. I really struggle with this one as I still go from memory a lot of the time, but I do take time to look up reference images as well as tutorials on how do draw certain things. Don't think of yourself as a lesser artist because you had to reference a pose from a photo or had to take design elements from some one else's work. A good amount of improvement is taking time to do some research on what you want to draw.

I hope this advice helps you, and keep it up.
