Because she's Goatmom and goats have pupils like that.

Toriel also has fangs, limbs with digits, and a number of other altered/anthropomorphic traits, one of those traits being round pupils. Goats don't have any of those things.

In this interpretation (and in the original sprites), Toriel's eyes have been moved forward more and recessed so the eyes can't see past the temporal bone, more like a predatory animal.

It just doesn't make sense to have wide resolution pupils with eye placement like that, so I was wondering aloud.

None of it makes sense, really. I love the pseudo-realism attached to these, pupils included, but I get why you would question it. I think it's just neat.

Goatmom looks scary as shit.
