that's a first. someone thought my profile pic said i was scared of something (it's more accurately described as a WTF? expression. not anything related to fear.). also, i stopped playing the pokemon games when i beat ruby (the original, not the remake).

i used torchic, caught a few other pokemon, raised torchic to 3rd evolution, beat the gym leaders, stopped the villain group, beat the elite 4, then beat the rival thus beating the game. and that's pretty much it as far as the entire games basic formula goes.

note: ruby is beatable with that one sole pokemon (torchic > blaziken) all on it's own rather easily. imo, that kinda defeats the whole purpose of catching (or enslaving if you'd prefer to call it that. though it IS easy to see why people can consider it slavery.) and training multiple pokemon.

i like the pokemon themselves...in pics and other fan content. the anime...well, lat's face it, it focuses on one of the worst trainers EVER (ash ketchum). how many times has ash won a regional championship? once? twice MAYBE? tch >.>

the games? each new generation brings a new set of pokemon, a few new features/extra content here and there but the core formula i pointed out above? nope, never changes much, if at all.

and please don't start with the whole loving and caring stuff. pokemon are 100% fictional. now if they were real then yeah, a definite maybe. (would love to meet a riolu or lucario) but they're not. :(

i think that answers you're question as well as several other potential ones likely to arise.

Check out the remakes of ruby and sapphire, they're really fun.

ORAS failed to meet up to the standards set by HG/SS for remakes, that being that they should be more like the 3rd version, but with elements of the first two versions (such as version exclusives) of each regional saga. I had much more fun just replaying Emerald than I did playing my copy of Alpha Sapphire.

I love Alpha Sapphire, besides low difficulty and lag with 3D (or lack of it) it's flawless.

The higher difficulty is a large part of what made the original games so fun to play though. It's also furstrating to see how they made several unnecessary changes, such as turning Granite Cave into an exposition dump for the Primals rather than leaving it as a neat little place where you could find good Pokémon like Aron and Sableye before fighting Brawley, or turning Mauville City into a confusing clusterfuck like Lumiose City was in XY. The shortcuts they took were glaringly obvious, such as literally copy-pasting Super Training (the bags are still Team Flare bags, I mean come on) and Amie (You couldn't come up with a few new minigamss?) and the Battle Maison (Which is even MORE bullshit than it was in XY because the only way you can get to the Wally refight is to win 50 battles in a row, all the while the computer is cheating farther in by shit like waking up turn 1 from Sleep each time, NEVER losing a turn from paralysis, etc. All the while counter-teaming the living shit out of you and will even spam Quick Claw + OHKO moves when it REALLY stops trying) There are aspects of Gen VI in general too which have also held it back, such as the idle animations of the models lacking any real personality compared to the idle animations of their Gen V counterparts.

It's like I said: ORAS didn't live up to the expectation HG/SS set for remakes. It just feels like a lazy, soulless game derived of questionable design choices all around and I just didn't enjoy it.

I think lazy, soulless game is not fair at all. I agree with Mauville and Battle Maison which are all terrible, but this game is not soulless at all. I will say X/Y are. Besides 3D pokemon and few new things (mega, amie etc) it's really bad, whole Kallos seems empty and boring, there's nothing to do here after the main story. In OR/AS you can rebattle trainers, get berries, find secret bases, have FUN completing the pokedex or look for mirage islands. As for not living up to the expectations of HG/SS it's just impossible because everyone loved the original gold/silver/crystal and they just made those games with new graphics, new pokemon and pokemon following you around (which is a BIG thing). OR/AS introduced flying on Latios/Latias, pokenav, better pokedex and overall more player friendly things like easier and faster flying, or everything for competetive players in one place.
