    also the reason volcanoes smell like rotten eggs, wait... The rotten egg smell is just the smell of sulfur...nvm I don't know where I was trying to go with that, I guess here ;)

    Actually sulfur by itself doesn't smell of anything. What you are actually smelling is oxidized sulfur on the surface or sulfurdioxide.

    A common element in both hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan (a.k.a. methanethiol), the two gases that give farts their oh-so-pleasant* odor.

    (*sarcasm, obviously. On the subject of farts, methane surprisingly makes up only a small portion of the compounds in the average fart. ... ...I made a VERY poor choice of topic for this comment, didn't I?)
