the public seem to really like him though.

His current approval rating is 43%, and that's up from a low of 38% in August.
He hasn't really followed through with his promises. Obamacare was disappointing to pretty much everyone, and recently he's made some extremely controversial and questionably legal executive orders regarding immigration.

Back in '08 I felt like he'd be something fresh, but his administration has been pretty piss-poor imo, and he is quite a bit too authoritarian for my tastes. In 2012 I voted for Ron [batshit crazy] Paul, even thought I knew he didn't have a chance; I was pretty upset with Obama by that point.
I'm not a radical, racist, or racist radical. I've simply put a lot of thought into my idealistic socioeconomic environment and decided Obama's beliefs don't mesh nicely with mine.

you seem to think that that is not the best standing of any current politician.

It is not. He has disappointed his own party and many independents. I voted for him in 08 but the way he handled things since then and his failure to do many of the things he promised has really soured my opinion.

He said he would make the government more transparent but he expanded Bush's hidden programs and gave the intelligence branches more power. His foreign policy has been 1 failure after another. He has done more drone strikes then Bush ever did (like, 4 times the amount)and gone into several neutral countries and even removed the legal leaders(what is Libya). His healthcare plan sucks. I was forced into it and am doing my damnedest to get out. The Democratic party has been just as obstructionist as the Republican party. Instead of trying to fix the country, he has been trying to passing laws that interfere with my life. He has had little respect for the other branches of government.

The sad thing is this. Bush realized his presidency was becoming a failure and fired most of his cabinet and brought in new people with new ideas. He grew as a president. I don't like him, but he tried and changed and learned from his mistakes eventually. Obama does not learn from his mistakes. He blames others and keeps on doing the same thing. Einstein said, "To do the same thing over again and expect different results is the definition of insanity."

tldr: Both parties suck, vote 3rd party for real change. Libertarian, Constitution Party, Pot Party, Landless Peasant Party, what ever...

You mean, like we have now? Ever single president is voted in by congress, the US Citizen vote doesn't count for shit. All presidents are equally bad and will always do what is best for money rather than what is best for the people.

  • You know, I wonder what Obama would say if he saw this post. No really, like if somehow, he was browsing the internet one day, and just saw this image. I wonder what thoughts would first cross his mind.

"Wtf is that? Is that a picture of me, dancing with a bird, dog, creature thing?" ..... "That's hot." xD

No, he probably wouldn't think that, but still. xD

well that seems strange, if the masses like him he should be allowed to stay.

That's not how it works in the U.S, people vote for a president, they run for 4 years and then if they are re-elected they go for another 4 years.

The only time it will ever be longer than 8 years is if the Vice President becomes President, say if the former President dies or something, he takes his spot, and the time he served in that situation does not count to his 4-8 year term.

The reason why no one person can serve more than 8 years by being elected twice is because if we let whoever be in charge of the country for however long they wanted they would, like someone said, try to control and change the country to meet their needs. Not to mention the stress and hate that comes with the job, and also the pay, most famous people get payed a lot more than the President, and all they have to do is say a few lines in a movie, or bounce a ball on the ground (basketball).

To be honest, I don't get why everyone hates Obama, he has done nothing worse than any of our other presidents, in fact, he's TRIED to do more for the U.S than our past presidents, but hasn't really succeeded, which leaves people to dwell on his failures. Not to mention a lot of Americans (I am American FYI) have the brain power of a potato and are easily influenced and persuaded, not to mention all the religious extremists who are also very close-minded.

Anyway, long rant short: People will hate the current president no matter who they are, regardless of what they have done or tried to do.

which is why they need some normal person to run the country and not get held down with political bullshit and let the guy get things done not some guy born with a silver spoon in his mouth "i guess thats why everyone in the URSC likes you so much, you understand them and they want you to lead them for ever" yeah, i guess at least i get things done rather than spending 50 odd years deciding whether or not to put a zebra crossing on a road.

  • To be frank about the use of an executive order since a bunch of people are arguing about it:

Obama's only made 203 orders so far. Does that sound like a lot? Bush did 291. Clinton did 364. Reagan did 381. FDR did 3721. Taft did 724.

203 orders is fucking NOTHING. If Obama's acting like a king, FDR was acting like a god.

You get fresh new ideas and things do not get stagnant and they do have time to build things in their own image by putting people in high places that all think like they do. That is how you lose your rights and freedoms. This man should have never made it to second term, he should not have even made it through his first term. Had the marines that guarded him or the secret service known their duties to the country he would have been removed long before now. He is very much a traitor and fraud.

I usually refuse to talk about two subjects in particular, because they tend to get a lot of people feeling angry: religion and politics. Why haven't other people picked this up? Can't we just enjoy the post without getting into a political argument, please?

Being stuck with 4 years, maximum 8 doesn't promote long term planning.

I don't think the simple number of EOs is as important as the intent of them. Bush's were mostly administrative tweaks that had little general effect..same for Clinton and Reagan. But a single one of Roosevelt's (6204, I believe, in early 1934) took us off the gold standard, confiscated billions in gold coin, bullion, and gold certificates (how in God's name does one person decide to make the money of the country illegal to have???), and set the stage for the rampant inflation we would enjoy for the next 75 years. I've never really understood the purpose of the EO provision in the Constitution, except that they were presumably intended to be used only in times of national emergency, when actions need to be taken, quickly, and decisively. It's a powerful privilege that has been largely abused.
    Final historical note...

    "Hope and Change"

Vladimir Lenin used that same slogan to win control of the Soviet Union...

and blissful days of peace and prosperity followed ever after...

    Yeah.

Except that Vladimir Lenin was succeeded by Stalin and the process that followed was the reason why you think "hope and change" having the bad effect it did was Lenin's fault. Vladimir Lenin had Marxist intents, meanwhile Stalin craved power.

Vladimir was one of the spearheads of the revolution against the monarchy. It was called the Soviet Union AFTER the revolution, thank you.

You can't make that comparison and have it be accurate until Obama is dead and succeeded by someone who would actually do damage to the original intents of the promises.

And yes, "Marxism" and "Communism" are different, 'Murrica.

Obama doesn't make orders, he gets stuck with others. Just because it's called the commander in cheif, doesn't mean that the president is on top. There's something called capitalism, it mean that the rich control and dictate and the rest of us don't mean shit. (thank God my country isn't capitalist) Anyway It's all complicated, then there's the Elite who control the entire U.S. government and there colleges are the ones that everyone worships, all the idiotic celebrities. And then when was Bush(Aka Kernel Clusterfuck) an president that learned from his mistakes. He was friends with Bin Laden. He knew about 9/11 before it happened.
Thankfully the homie Obama got Osama.

    Think about it.

Eventually I just gave up because the negativity, disagreement, and (in some cases) hostility was just too much for me here. Why, when browsing a site meant for art, must we allow discourse to devolve such, instead of simply setting aside our personal political views and focusing on the art.

Old e621 was actually full of drama and negativity like this. People took the internet waaay too seriously back then. There's been more positive discussions popping up these days though, thankfully.

    1. Yeah, every post related to political matters, even as an ironic joke, seems to have a kind of tense atmosphere.
    2. Not that this was posted during Trump's presidency, but the electoral college overtook the people's vote in the end. It seems like the majority hates *him*, too, but you're right here -- there will always be people on both sides. And from what I've seen, the majority will always seem to hate the current president.

(Now that it's 2020, I'm sure this won't change with the next president (or 2024 -- Kanye 2024 anyone?). I feel like there will always be these tense comment sections like these no matter what you do...)

You mean, like we have now? Ever single president is voted in by congress, the US Citizen vote doesn't count for shit. All presidents are equally bad and will always do what is best for money rather than what is best for the people.

Old comment but from 2022 your damn right

    1. Yeah, every post related to political matters, even as an ironic joke, seems to have a kind of tense atmosphere.

Holy shit dude. Just holy shit
