  • if it were longer i would've expected the song to continue and a circus to go up there and then start pouring out in a random order.

  • I've been needing to see this but Flash's death made it a pain, I was able to get it converted as best I could.

With watching flash files, I used to just double click the flash open from my desktop and I still do, so nothing has really changed even with EoL of the software outside of not opening completely random brand new SWF files.

The thing is, e621 has high quality standards and additionally we do have guidelines that prohibit stuff like screencaps.
Also I'm here to enforce it all.

Thing is that SWF someone made is essentially it's own full software and back in the day, you would need to code loading window so that the flash wouldn't be broken with dialup speed not loading the necessary objects fast enough, if you want user to allow audio to be muted and not blasting at full volume you have to code that as well, also you cannot have too high quality audio because it needs to fit into few hundred kilobytes so 32kbps 22kHz MP3 it is, at the end you need to give user choise to maybe replay the whole thing without needing to reload the page/file, etc. etc.
None of these things really are meant to be there, but are simply because they had to be put in there or be done in that way so conversion jobs can vary from simple "convert" button presses into hours of manual work and adjustements.

Let's talk about this flash specifically:
Keeping initial loading screen text is still crusial and some leeway in the end because there was button put there instead of just automatically looping, however keeping interactive buttons does not look good on video and is definition of screen recording, rather than conversion.

It's majority vector graphics that scale correctly and aren't fixed widths with some bitmaps that are higher resolution than the flash own set resolution for the animation, so using higher resolutions should not produce any problems. At that point, aiming to use standard resolutions of modern monitors (e.g. 1080p, 1440p, 4K) is desireable as this should futureproof the video file further with no scaling happening even if user fullscreens the animation, but trying to keep it around 2x size so that originally unintented visuals or low quality visuals aren't distracting. In this instance it would be 480p, initial upload was 566p (so neither standard or double) so double would be 960p, so 1080p should be safe.

Reason for this is that people are lazy, so they find someone already done the thing, take it and share it. I still find some of my super initial WebM conversion jobs like post #530706 still being shared around all over the place - including artists own officially sold pack that I purchased (MD5 matches, it's the same file and I did make that file out from the flash file 10 years ago). And I sucked back then, I think I was doing like YUV file conversion before doing the webm conversion directly with webm tools or something really bad like that, only reason it's not replaced from newgrounds source is because of the artists DNP reason disallowing that.

Always match the framerate and avoid frame drops. This is why tools like Swivel is such amazing invention from Newgrounds as Flash is actually fucking piece of shit software that especially on modern multicore systems will drop frames if you run anything above 720p, so that tool actually waits that the system is finished before continuing, where regular screencap software will just drop all the frames in realtime and it's mess. This flash is 30 FPS, but the uploaded WebM is 60 FPS with variable framerate enabled, which can cause some minor issues.

Audio used is 40kbps 22kHz MP3 so it's, straight up bad. However artist simply used some sort of Limewire file or ripped it from youtube and compressed it for this animation, so it is actually possible to do that yourself as well and time it perfectly. Even youtube is 128kbps AAC 44.1kHz which is major improvement regardless of what format and settings the video was initially uploaded.

All that said, post is now replaced with much higher quality conversion with all of this in mind.

Is there not a spot that lists who uploaded a file?

It used to be listed on left side panel, but in past there has been multitude of issues rising from this, including users who would pirate artists content just to be the first to upload it here and get their name next to popular upload for eternity, to new artists thinking that the name there meant that someone is plagiarising them and stealing their work by submitting it under their own name.
Very first uploader is always first user in tags/desc history, nowdays we have replacement system so if post was replaced, the current posts uploader is listed there. Think people have made some scripts to restore it back on pages as well if you want that.

Have also been asking for approver to have similar thing done, because who approved post is literally irrelevant information for basically everyone, however current way to contest post approval or deletion is to dmail the approver/deleter as there is no system to do this in any dedicated way.

    Tags/Desc link under History.

Thank you! I've seen some posts where it would always appear to the left like some of the other details. I was hoping it would always show so it wasn't confusing anyone that it was me trying to have it still easily viewable versus the actual artist being active as well as they could easily figure out who did it in case I messed it up.

Rayverak has a public discord that he has advertised in a FA journal and some of his other posts. His discord has been pretty active for the last 6 years, and he posts his wip's to it.
