  • page 69 hehe funny number :3

but OMG WHERE ARE THE FUN ANIMAL FACTS :(

i know i’m not them, but here’s one about otters to hold you guys over:

Sea otters have the thickest fur of any animal.
Their fur contains between 600,000 to 1,000,000 hair follicles per square inch. Unlike most other marine mammals, otters lack a blubber layer. Instead, they depend on their dense, water-resistant fur to provide insulation.

You are either a marine biologist or a DougDoug fan. The third option is that animal facts are your non human blorbo. The chances are slim but not zero that it's all three.

  • (One of) This week’s fun animal fact: penguins have a supraorbital gland right above their eye which can filter out saltwater from their blood. This means that when they eat food that has lots of saltwater in it, they can get freshwater from it. This extra salt is excreted through its bill or by sneezing

I will be back whenever the next page comes for another fun animal fact

Bonus fact: William James Beal is the man who started one of the longest experiments in history, is a pioneer in developing hybrid corn and is the founder of the W.J. Beal botanical garden. In 1879, 145 years ago, he conducted one of the longest experiments in the field of botany. He filled several 20 empty bottles with a mixture of sand and seeds, each bottle containing 50 seeds from 21 different plant species, then each bottle was buried in the ground, neck down, and each year people would Dig up one of those bottles and plant it for observation. Beal wanted to know how long the seeds could last before they could no longer germinate. The gardeners later extended the experiment and decided to open one bottle every decade. It was later changed to one bottle every two decades. The last bottle dug up was in 2020 with 20 seeds successfully germinated. Currently, the bottles are buried on the campus of Michigan State University and are expected to end in 2100.

i’m actually a computer scientist, not a marine biologist. i’ve watched dougdoug before, but i wouldn’t say that i’m the biggest fan of them. and although i do enjoy learning and possessing new animal facts every day, i wouldn’t say that it is my blorbo. great tries though!! keep at it and one day, you may eventually end up being a detective.
