    In the anime that dude is almost pathologically obsessed with monsters, studying their biology, behavior and even taste (they travel through a dungeon eating all sorts of creatures due to lack of money). The cat girl is human but has some kind of curse that she's trying to remove. And in this scene they keep him from seeing her body not out of modesty, but to avoid him going full monster nerd on her.

    It's actually the other way around, she's a cat, but because of magic shenanigans she became half human
