Here's the Patreon Monthly Vote Draw for 2024 September! This time, as falls slowly approach and being a dark month, I've decided to try a pretty distressing image, with some new drawing method of background lining... It turned out to be quite well imo, but feel free to tell me what you think!

The total income I received from Patreon in September is $93!

Reproduction Observation Report - 185

National Pokedex number – 185
Species name – Bellossom
Lifespan – mostly below a year

It was never an easy thing to observe the ecology and biology knowledge about wild grass-types, their close relation with plants makes some of them incredibly short-lived. About the topic of their reproduction and lifespan, it is especially difficult, and I would admit, amongst all the grass-type Pokemon in the world, Bellossom species has one of the most heartbreaking results.

It is a well-known fact that when a grass-type Pokemon was taken care by humans and all the advanced medical technologies, they can easily have a very long lifespan, some of them would almost have the same as human. Bellossom is not one of the lucky species that could go that far, but roughly living 10-15 years within the human society is not difficult to achieve.

Wild Bellossom, however, has a pretty short life-cycle. Females hatch as Oddish at the end of the winter, evolve into Gloom, then they either evolve into a powerful Vileplume, live a longer life, be the provider of the spores… Or embrace the bloody path of motherhood.

Vileplume and Bellossom would almost immediately begin to mate right after evolving to create the next generation, and Bellossom’s gestation is a race against time… They will begin to wilt as Autumn approaches, most of them would not get to see the falling snowflakes in the winter or the blossom of another spring. They will lay eggs, and then soon after, passing away and leave the eggs behind for their Vileplume mates to tend, who could have several years of life naturally. It is, however, not a very uncommon scenario for Bellossom to not even making through the end of their pregnancy too, some dies during the test of motherhood, and some before.

They always carry around 2-5 eggs, however, to ensure their kind’s existence in the ecology system, that is why despite the maternal mortality rate of the species, they still thrive nicely, far from the problem of extinction... for now.
