Showing the ass is a great way to have some nudity while still leaving the frontal genitals ambiguous. I know many non-binary characters aren't intersex and have a binary assigned sex, but the genitals effect the viewer's perception a lot. This clever butt trick avoids the distraction of those pesky gendering genitals. Not that artists have to hide the genitals if they want to show them.
