That's what happens to Pinky when someone really hurts her feelings, or she looses hope for a bit. Her curls go away and her mane and tail become straight. It's cannon from the show.

Nice catch i had to go back and check it out. her hair is starting to straighten and you see a small frame of it in the first panel here. i see interesting things happening after this
