  • The way this was composed feels like a children's book in how it goes about stuff.

At least, some books I've read since sometimes the illustrations will draw the focus completely away from the characters as to show the beauty of the landscape.

Has anyone else here read a book where the artwork is like that?

I have to admit I never learned any formal art lessons and don't think much about composition. I think of the whole painting as the point of focus. I've always drawn by trying to fill the page up with details .

I chose this format because of the downward focus in a normal format would only show the ground and I wanted it to show where they are walking too, through the garden and into the horizon. From footprints int the ground to the sky, felt it was important for the story being told.

Ohhh, for me I see it as that the characters being in the trees shadow encourages the eyes to look at whats ahead. Which (I think) is important to the story being told based on how you've described it!
