maybe im just an asshole for this, but its hard to trust stuff like this because of shit that's happened, like that one artist who stole hundreds in coms after pleading for commissions for various reasons that sounded pretty dire.

Smart to make a different variant of the same work and post it here. Genuinely hope he'll get the needed money because if he does, it may just be the first time e6 helped save a guy's life.

i know exactly how you feel i never trust charities or fundraisers not after i learned that only 2% of every dollar donated goes to the actual cause every charity is a massive sometimes worldwide scam

Donated a bit. Idk if it'll help much but I'd rather send the guy something then sit on my ass knowing I could've changed things, even by a smidge

I can't donate because it's not USD TwT (my card doesn't auto transfer to different currency)

While that's true, this is not that type of charity. This is someone raising money for "themselves". The only company that's making a profit out of it is Paypal since they take some percentage of every transaction and there are conversion fees too. Still the vast majority of the money goes to Duragon - so far Paypal has taken around 450£ out of 9200£ that was raised which comes to around 5% meaning Dura receives 95% of the money. This of course depends on the amount donated - with small donations like 1£ having a much bigger chunk taken than bigger donations - 5£ and more.
As for Dura - well personally I never asked for any proof, but I've seen him struggle over the years and I really don't think he's exaggerating anything. This surgery is actually a follow up to the first one he had - it was always going to be two and I remember him mentioning that even back when he was raising money for the first one. I've also seen him selling off his own OC's to raise more money for both surgeries - he's still doing it and you can see his available characters here
Sadly his dire situation also lead to some people low-balling him in the past and acquiring his characters for dirt cheap so please don't do that...

If you have a Paypal account I believe it will handle the conversion itself even if your card doesn't support it - that way you could still donate.

Understandable. After doing something similar, I raised $10k for someone and when the transaction process was halted because of the large sum of money- I was immediately labeled as a thief. 2 weeks later I had to show screenshots of the transaction and the person who needed the money came out and on their end explained nothing went wrong but by that point in time, Damage was done. I was sent hate mail, death threats, you name it. Caused me to leave the fandom but you know what? It got someone the money they needed for their med bills. Things can seem shady but at the end of the day as a singular person it just takes $1. And sure someone COULD take the money and run... or... you could have just saved a life. Your past experiences don't define everyone. Not ever bad apple spoils the bunch, you know? I've done all I physically could by this point and I'm leaving it in the hands of those with a larger voice than mine now. Duragon? Hang in there, dude.

I think it originally read "Share it on your socials" and people interpreted it as 'share it on your socials, not here'. But I suspected from the beginning that it was just a genuine call to share it around, just pretty poorly worded.

No idea what you're trying to say. But if it's about jobs then there was some really mean person that sent some really awful comments and ended it with a literal McDonald's job offer under Dura's pleas for help on Twitter.
Dura however is in no condition to work - his immune system is compromised so any contact with large groups of people is risky. Recently he also fainted while doing some Game Boy repair for a client which resulted in him burning his hand against the soldering iron/heat gun while unconscious. Also Dura is using a wheelchair for most of his day so that excludes a lot of possible jobs anyway. The support he receives from the community and some friends is currently all he has.
