"Oh dear, I'm not following this at all.... Alright kids, I'm going to need y'all to balance the town budget for me. Ol' Tom's forgotten how to multiplicate."

  • I have a hard time believing that Tom Nook of all people is terrible with math given his infamous "reputation" as a salesman. Unless that is the joke as to why inuniverse he overcharges so much earlier on in the franchise. Wait unless was that supposed to multitask instead?

reminder that these aren't the canon versions of the characters and they've all had bits of their personalities tweaked, if not totally overhauled. some of them (mostly the special NPCs) still play the same or similar roles to their canon iterations, but, apart from their appearance, they're very different characters, living in a significantly different world.

Nook here might not be as shrewd of a businessman as we're used to.

  • considering nook gave away a house in exchange for bells I'd say his business savvy may be a wee bit lacking

and he keeps saying all these leaves are furniture!

  • Surprised this town hasn't consumed itself into a fireball and then exploded so far with how they are running it up to this point.

It could also be a joke at how old Tom Nook might be by this point in the franchise.
