Actually the deathclaws in Fallout 2 took care of the peaceful humans they came across, so that idea is very much within the realm of possibility :)

It was actually possible to save the sentient deathclaw vault from extermination, but as it often is in OG fallouts, the ending in which they survive is bugged.
