Dont be fooled! Its not one single executive bad guy thats at fault. Replace Zaslav with another guy and theyll just do the same thing. The cause of this is the whole system that would be happy to destroy a creative work just to extract extra profit in a tax writeoff. They will only ever do what they think guarantees the most certain finincial profit no matter what is ruined in the act. Time for something new! Time for a new system where the end goal of human effort is human creation, human betterment, and NOT maximum financial profit!

Actually, in this case Zaslav has made his antipathy to WB specifically clear. Remember that he was head of Discovery Communications at the time of the merger, and WB has been the one getting fucked since the merger.

Admittedly, movies are an expensive business, and accounting fraud can only get you so far before a movie looks like a loser. Other than Coyote vs. Acme every other movie that got mothballed in the can tested poorly.

You do realize how bad that is? To say that the end all of why to do any artistic work is wether or not the most people may like it? We dont have to imagine what art looks like when made by testing for positive respose. Nothing daring, mind challenging, or new will ever get made in such a way. Only ever stuff that appeals to the majority. There are quite a number of great old films that tested poorly on screening but would go on to change cultural norms. Again its not one single executive, its the motive for a guaranteed maximum profit with as little risk as possible. Its giving a tiny handful of executives who didnt make anything total control over the whole working project.

This...THIS movie cancellation right here is EXACTLY why Helluva Boss, Far-Fetched, The Amazing Digital Circus, Lackadaisy, & literally every other future animated series or movie go independently! If they were made in a major animation studio, they would ALL get cancelled inmediately after production! Literally every single major animation studio is run by a bunch of old jews who are all total pussies and refuse to take risks! They only want shitty rehashes of dead franchises like Animaniacs or Powerpuff Girls!

If this movie ISN'T coming out by the end of this year, we need to do to them what they did to Palenstine...

Movies get screened for test audiences as part of the production process, as test screenings allow the filmmakers to figure out a film's strengths and flaws and to figure out what fixes need made, and whether or not it's worth the time and effort (both financially and stress-wise) to make them (i.e. is the core film itself entertaining enough on its own?). The test screenings are not for a generic audience (unless we're talking a summer tentpole release such as this), but for more specific demographics the film is aimed at.

In this case, however, Coyote vs. Acme was screwed because Zaslav, being from a firm that mainly does documentaries, very likely doesn't understand that fiction films follow a different template and have different standards, and he doesn't care to understand right up until all the creatives start resigning and/or canceling meetings with the studio. The A.V. Club, when reporting on CvA's being written off, noted that he didn't bother attending any test screenings of the film.
